Funneling or diverting Coyotes #7692198

I have a trail on my property. It splits off at one point. To the left it goes deeper into my property, and to the right it quickly crosses onto my neighbors. I know coyotes use this trail. Is there anything I can hang on the trail to the right that might encourage the coyotes to go to the left trail? I've heard of guys smearing a glow in the dark lure on Bobcat flags. Would that be enough if I hung one near the property line? Or am I risking completely spooking them by adding anything unnatural?

Or would a trailing scent dribbled to the left be a safer approach to guiding them down the trail I need?

Thanks

Silly question but why can't you set before the split?

Anyways, start a scent/bait station station well down the trail. Wouldn't addd any visuals. Obviously check game laws if you're going to use exposed flesh baits

The section before the split runs almost on the property line. Its technically mine, but the neighbors use it sometimes and id like to avoid issues with their dogs. Id like to divert the coyotes down the left side to take them further into my property. I've thought about bait stations. There is a ridge the runs the opposite side of my property. I've thought about hanging a call bag up in a tree on the ridge to try to pull them. Ive got a couple feral cats in the freezer that i can use. I just thought a small visual would stop them from heading down the wrong trail.

Scent station if the split is downwind from where you want to catch the yotes should attract them farther up. If you just keep dumping carcasses, it will be loud enough that the wind direction wont really matter much.

I suppose one could hang stuff on the trail you don't want them to go down and spook em off that trail

Really i wouldn't worry about encouraging/discouraging which trail to use unless they never use your side of the trail. Or that you only have a amall window (less than 2weeks) to set traps.

In this area I might use tree tops off of dead trees to do some blocking here and there. This is done well ahead of time. This works sometimes but if a yote wants to get to a certain area blocking him down might not always work. This has been my experience here.

I’ve had pretty good luck using coyote carcasses to get coyotes to avoid places I’d rather not have to get in to very often.

You could hang flags. They’ll get used to them than just hang something new. I think it was Wiley Carroll that said “what’s the best way to booger a coyote? Hang a flag on his trail. What’s the best way to booger him two weeks later? Take it down”.

Stink up the place. If you’re coyotes avoid humans.

Play the wind and ensure that dirt hole or any set is close and downwind of where the coyotes are coming up the road they will follow the left if they smell it for sure.

In Alaska, when we want a pack of wolves to get off our trail and run into a band of snares, or take the other trail, we just take a old winter glove and put it on top of a 3 foot stick, and ram it into the snow in the middle of the trail. Wolves will not be taking that trail for sure. Give it a try, works on the the bigger dog's.

If they are coming onto your property from your neighbors land why would you want to divert them?
