Good grief, I called the credit card company today (Cabelas) Capitalone Because I have a dispute with a defective item (long story) Anyway, I start pushing all the buttons. English, account number, last four, and sit through the balance and due date malarkey and all the other crap. Then comes a new one. "We want to update your earnings, please say or type in your yearly earnings so we can update our records"! You kidding me! They didn't have a "none of your frick'in business" number to push so I pushed zero. What nerve.

Not everyone lives where they can trade fur for goods. But I do agree credit cards are bad for a lot of people.

BUT if you use your bank card on the internet and there is an issue you have all the liability to try and get your money back yourself

so you almost need to keep a card so that you can do anything , book tickets, flights, hotel , purchase online , in many cases be seen at a ER.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

They just want to know if your yearly income has increased to raise the credit of your credit card. Let’s say you have a $5k limit with $100K, but you’ve gotten a raise to $200K so they will up your credit to $20K

Credit cards can be a huge problem for some people, and young people especially. I almost fell into that trap back in my early 20's. I was smart enough to see it and got myself out of it. I have never looked back. The wife and I use a credit card for most purchases and no matter how painful, that credit card gets paid off every month. We only have one credit card account. I had to teach this to my wife when we were first married. She brought a lot of credit card debt. I paid it off, and we went to my system. Oddly, my system is pretty easy. Live within your means. My credit score has been well over 800 for decades. The wife's is now also well over 800. We have very little debt, a mortgage and 1 car payment. That is it. One of the most important things you can teach a young person is how to maintain a good credit score. It will help you out all through your life and even save you money with lower interest rates when you do have to borrow.

This, almost 100%.

We keep 2 cards, one is used only for internet purchases. Helps to minimize the disruption when the numbers get stolen.

I buy almost everything with a credit card. Use the points for airplane tickets. Very convenient for us.

Finster, when you first applied for that Cabelas card did they not ask you what your annual income is?

I was wondering with the interest you pay on the credit cards if it offsets the money you get for the airline fares.

There is no interest if you pay it in full every month. My cards don’t have an annual fee either.

Like already stated, No yearly fees and I pay it off every month. Capital One has never made a dime off of me.

Mike, they will never give up hoping to make a dime off of you! My wife has been my problem….twice! I told her there would not be a third time. I believe she gets it now! lol
