I made a Tony Joanis style mink set today.
Took a few pics if anyone wants to try a couple.
This is a good set in the North as it still works after freeze up and handles snowfall pretty good.It wont drift in like a box in the grass.
I like to add a rat set on the log.If you use a rat for bait in the box they will plug up the mink set.
Have got doubles on mink too with this set as well as rat/mink doubles.
I also have used this type of set with the box at the end of the log in the grass,a bit quicker to set up.
First off find a good straight spruce for the box stake.

Then at the set location I notch the running log to set a foothold for rats, and stabilize the log so it doesnt tip

Then I throw some gras on the flat spot and bed a no1 ls for rats.
Then I spike the box to the stake, wire in a chunk of bait to the screen and shove the stake in the bottom so the box opening is about 8 inches off the end of the log.I make the stake long enough to go in deep since the bottoms here are generally soft.if the box is too high,I just note that, pull up the stake and lop off whatever to make the box sit at the right height above the running log.
Then set the 120 and its done.Narrow slots for the springs will hold the trap solid when set opening down.

Beaver dams and beaver houses are mink magnets and are good locations for these semi permanent type sets.
When done for the season just pull the box and stake and stash up under a spruce for next year,or spike to a tree for a marten set.
