I honestly have never used one. Shaking the corn bag seems to work as good as anything. smile

I have nothing clever to put here.

The old MADD grunt/snort wheeze was my favorite but they discontinued the model and mine finally gave up the ghost. Heartbroken. Woods-Wise made one they called the Buc & Doe iirc. It was a cartridge call and the doe bleat was killer. Still is. I used it last to call in a little forlorn.

There are several good calls on the market and I suspect most any of them will do the job if you find a buck in the right frame of mind.

The first time I tried to call a deer it worked great. I saw this buck further than I wanted to shoot. I doe bleated. I made the bleat and he turned and faced me. I waited about 45 seconds and bleated again. He came straight at me. He got about 100 yards and stopped and started feeding. So I shot him. I figured hew was 400-500 yards when I called.

My only experience with deer calls is when I grunt they either ignore it or take off. Never do they cone my direction. But I hardly ever call. Bought a grunt tube tonight and got a set of antlers out that was off road kill. I think I will try making some noise mid day tomorrow . My boys got drawn for a youth refuge hunt. I will let you know it it works. It will be a long Day.

The best time to call deer is when they're already on their feet. Early morning and evening.

I have brought bucks in rattling horns before. Be sure they can't get downwind of you, they will try.

I've not had much success with doe blasts. Best success rates for me have been with a Primos Buck Roar.

A Way bow grunter plus. I'm not sure if they are in business anymore. I still own and use this call. It has worked great over the years. It is adjustable from fawn to buck. The best call I've ever used. Made by A Way products (Fred and Greg Abbis)

Too many to list, Scott. Knight & Hale EZ Grunter, Primos Buck Roar, Woods-Wise (now defunct but available on eBay) and a bunch of others. I have too many to list but have called in deer with most, if not all of them.

I use the doe bleat in conjunction with the grunt tube. I try to paint a picture a buck can't ignore.

Absolutely. A mature buck is going to try and come in downwind. It's not so much he thinks the calling is a fraud, he wants to know who he is walking into.

Learned many years ago how to snort wheeze by mouth. It has been brought the end to many deer-both bucks and does.

I have to say I also have had very little if any success with a doe bleat. Have called a bunch in with a grunt though. A snort wheeze can have impressive results too especially on mature bucks during the rut. My absolute favorite tool for hunting deer is a deer decoy. Those things are probably the only hunting gadget I've bought that works even better than I hoped it would .
Right now I use a Knight and Hale ez grunt-er extreme. Blows easy and has a very smooth tone to it. Blow for a grunt, inhale for a bleat.

My experience with a deer call is sometimes the deer show no reaction ,sometimes they run away and sometimes they come to the call and the hunter gets a shot .I have killed several buck that I am certain the deer was coming closer to investigate the sound of the call For about 20 years now I always have either a buck grunt call and a doe bleat call with me if I am deer hunting. They take up vey little room and they work .

The True Talker grunt tube is the best grunt tube I've used, and I've tried quite a few. It can make older or younger buck grunts and doe bleats that sound realistic. Its also quite durable and nearly freeze proof. I found one in the woods probably 15 years ago and have been using it since. That said, I do little to no blind calling and typically call only when I can see the deer, if I call at all. 99% of the big bucks in my area will circle downwind and out of range to calling in my area which is the reason I only call in certain situations when I can see them. Good luck.

Gonna sound crazy but I have used my phone playing the calls on YouTube. Specifically the one where the tuber is doing a doe and buck combination. lol

Hobbie That is not crazy at all .Some times when a critter comes to a call it is out of curiosity I stopped a buck that was about to pass through my shooting lane He was going at a steady walk and I was just a split second behind him . I burpped at him with my voice and he stopped drop dead where I would have placed him for the shot.I already had the bow up and on draw When he stopped the arrow was on its way . He went about 50 yards and kicked over backwards But if he had not stopped I am not sure I could have shot .Someone ask me way I grunted at him I said I needed to stop him before he was through my shooting lane

As a young man, made my own deer call, a fawn bleat out of: (2) 3/8 x 1 x 6 pine hollowed on one side about 3/32 deep x 1 1/2 long centered, a wide piece of grass, (2) rubber bands. Place the two pieces of wood with the hollows together, place the grass between the wood so it acts as a reed through the opening, secure with a rubber band each end. Replace the grass when needed because of use or age.

Every year.

I have had excellent luck with the can call but when you use it is the crucial part.

I have seen bucks chasing does and after tipping the can had her bring the buck to me.

It's excellent if you get a buck on the chase and tip it. They will either come straight in or try to circle down wind but if you're ready you'll get a shot.

If a doe is hot she will take off with the buck leaving you angry.

Sometimes you get zero results othe times it's golden.

I have had my best luck this time of year bowhunting but have had them come during rifle season.

Just keep in mind once you tip the can a couple times the deer has your location pegged.

Called in hundreds of deer with grunts and by rattling. Only issue is I’ve only seen two called in worth shooting. If quantity is your thing they are great, I’ve just never had much luck with quality.
The deer I’ve been after is 6.5 and will turn the other way from rattling or grunting. I’ve seen him on lockdown with a doe and saw a lot of bucks come in but all he had to do was posture and lay those ears back and they decided there were plenty of other does to check out.
Some deer just aren’t fighters or want confrontation. You can usually tell those by no broken tines later in the season, lol. Had a nice drop tine buck that broke his drop tine the second week after losing velvet.

I’ve seen it work on some huge bucks on TV, just never worked for me down here. All I seem to attract are the smaller bucks.

Too bad someone can't start making them again

The company went out of business, Scott. Too bad, they made a lot of innovated calls.

I'm surprised someone didn't buy them out and keep it going.

I've grunted in at least a dozen bucks over the years (blind calling) using a True Talker. I'm a big believer in doing young buck grunts instead of the mega/monster/super-deep mature buck grunt. My theory on that is I believe that sounding like the biggest buck in the woods would likely scare off a buck that doesn't believe he's the biggest, baddest deer in the woods.

I'd rather decide if the buck is big enough to shoot.

I couldn't tell you how many bucks I've grunted in at first light on opening morning of rifle season. I'm a big fan.

Anyone new to calling and wants to perfect their craft should check out a guy by the name of Gary Clancey. He literally wrote the book on calling deer. I bought a copy of it twenty years ago and wore the book out. It's not that deer are hard to call, they're not, but Clancey really delves into the different vocalizations and what you can get away with. You can YouTube him as well.
