Scott T OP trapper S Joined: Dec 2006 Worthington, IN	I’ve never targeted otter before but I pulled up to this dam today and there was one sitting right in the middle of it. Where do my traps go? I have 160’s 220’s 330’s #3 and mb750’s. It kept diving back and forth under the log on the left and then went up the bank on the left. Dam is about 15 feet wide. Will be setting in about 2 weeks. Looks like he needs another year;-)

Go up and down stream and find some more locations where the otter are naturally traveling, like a fallen log across the ditch with a defined travel-way under it. How deep is that ditch? SGT. C trapper S Joined: Dec 2006 Midlands South Carolina	Take your 220's and get you some fencing. Like hog wire. Fence up all the way up on the bank. Use at least 4 traps. Otters travel in pairs most of the time. You will also catch anything that travels up and down the creek. This is how i set up here when trap thieves aren't present. Works like charm. If you dont take out the beaver first they will get caught in your pressure set and it may be out of commission when the otter comes thru. Last edited by Boco; 10/31/22 04:26 PM. Scott T OP trapper S Joined: Dec 2006 Worthington, IN	The water is probably waist deep on the upper side a knee deep down stream. I am planning on taking out the beaver. An otter would be a bonus. I’ll try the crossover. It isn’t very well defined and then go down stream and find somewhere that’s already blocked or block it down. Will be gang setting. Thank you all for the advice. Thought about something between the log and the bank too?? Looks like he needs another year;-)

At this location,I took the beaver out as nuisance in late summer,and made the pressure set without the trap. I added the trap to the opening over a week ago. Picked up this nice black otter today and re set the trap. Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Another killer otter set is a "fort or palisade " wall constructed with branches parallel to & out from the bank where they are playing/swimming with a 330 on each end ...man made tunnel they love swim.
