Had an owner of a local restaurant stop in to cancel his insurance for lack of workers. He was closing his restaurant. He was shut down for the pandemic. His workers came back and most only wanted to work 10 hours. The government would make up 30 hours guaranteeing them pay for a 40 hour week.

I mentioned this to a friend of mine who frequents the casino. He said what the restaurant owner said is true. It seems one of the waitresses at the casino only works on Saturday and as long as she works one day, the government makes up the difference in pay for a 40 hour week. I'd never heard of this, but supposedly this started with the pandemic and has continued. Free money people who work get to pay for.

Yep! Down here too! I seen few business close here for the lack of workers and materials.

I saw something I have only ever seen on tv before.

Went thru I town close here and some fella was walking along the road waving at me, and when I got closer I saw he was holding a sign saying....I'm hiring on the spot!

I didn't see who he was hiring for before I was past him but there is a cabinet factory just up the road from where he was, so I'm guessing there.

Here as well, McKenzie River has closed here from lack of workers.

Most of the stores near me have greatly reduced hours due not having enough employees to be opened pre-covid hours. Almost none of the places that were open 24 hours are still open 24 hours.

There is a restaurant near where I live that is only open all day Friday and Saturday. Sunday mornings for the after church crowd. He can't get any full time workers. Hiring signs have been up for months.

Idk about people getting gov money to make up a 40 hour week but there are a lot of changes here too. One restaurant has been thriving for 70 years doesn't offer sit in dinning anymore cause they can't get workers. They have take out from time to time.

There's long lines now, everywhere because usually there's only one checkout person. I waited 20 min the other day at the RKO and 10 min at the gas station. The poor Lady was stressed and apologized to every customer for the wait, I told her it wasn't her fault.

There were hiring signs at almost every place I went including the PO, starting at 20 bucks an hour and they can't keep workers. They work a few weeks and quit. Sometimes it's like being in a episode of the Twilight Zone lol. How some of the youngins are supporting themselves is beyond me. Weird times!

Weekend shift at a company here pays 40 hours for 36 worked. Also a PTO incentive for actually coming to work. Sad work ethics these days

I've been short handed all summer, probably left $100k on the table because of the lack of good employees. More you pay the less hours people want. Some want few enough hours they get state health insurance or other benefits.

I've considered hanging it up and getting a job, the amount of stress this year due to employees was not worth it.

Everyone is struggling to hire and retain workers. There is an entire generation in the workforce now who have never experienced a "buyers market" in their adult life. They are in for a ride awakening when the inevitable labor force contraction comes IMO.
I have personally witnessed someone quit a semi-skilled production job with opportunity for advancement to go work at McDonald's because the Minimum wage was hiked to $15 and there was less stress due to low expectations there.
I am disgusted by the attitude on display from many low value workers out there...and I do mean low value. They bring nothing to the table but expect the moon and stars in return.

There will be a rude awakening for this generation of workers. They want to work one job. High earnings. But no experience. They don’t want to work overtime. But feel they deserve a raise. Very rude awakening coming. I have stopped trying to hire.

Yes sir Pete. That utopia they're counting on is gonna bite them square on the NO. Sad, but at the same time makes me giggle.

I think its a combination of things, but for food workers to me the main issue is that just generally they dont charge enough. This includes fast food, sit in restaurants and the like, they all have been charging way too little for serving food.

How much would it take to get any of you to slave over a hot stove, oven, fryer and the works today? I bet most would refuse, but to me its one of the most under appreciated things in the USA. If they charged more, their workers could have been paid more for a long time.

The only thing I do know is that if you have a good employee, you better take care of them above and beyond and not try to just milk em dry.

I don't know where you eat out, but it's getting pretty close to unaffordable most places.
