I’ve got a barn on my farm that unfortunately I’m gonna have to tear down, cost would be way to high to fix it.

Any of you guys build anything with old barn lumber? Got any ideas and or pictures of your projects?

I've gotten some good ideas from the TV show barnwood builders, I'm making a fur hanging board that I'm going to put a couple coyote pelts and the buck I had European mounted last year. Saw a nice set of corn hole / bean bag boards made from barn wood

There’s a feller or two round here that will pay you and tear it down. Depends on what you got but some of them old Timbers bring a pretty penny.

Some nice picture frames are made from reclaimed wood. Sell if to a mill that makes framing pieces.

If just looking to tear it down & get rid of it, the Amish will sometimes tear it down if they can keep the wood

Till that day.....

Wood condition and species are #1.
Marketing and logistics #2.

Barn, and barn wood are broad terms.

We used to build stuff out of the siding boards until lead paint was brought up in a conversation and that ended us working with it as we couldn’t grantee that there wasn’t any lead paint on it.

Reclaimed barn wood can be used to make some beautiful things.

Just ask Fender.

Thanks for the comments guys

I don’t plan to sell the lumber and I plan to take it down myself. I will be reusing some of the materials to build some open front sheds, the other lumber and such I was planning to make things with. I like the idea of the corn hole boards and k snow that does make a nice background for your mount

I built a rustic looking out house out of barn wood once. I was offered a decent amount of money for it more than once (without the traps) for yard decor. I wish I had wood enough to build a dozen of them for resale $$$$ ...

Pretty penny indeed. There are more than a couple of Amish farms in the area now that are "growing" their own "barn wood."

You'll spot them easily enough, as the farm is surrounded by a fence of fresh pine boards, untreated and unpainted. Give it several years and they start on one end, taking down "barn wood" and putting up fresh pine. The home grown barn wood then becomes the nick nacks they sell to the English. Quite the entrepreneurs.

1) Make a fish smoking box with the barn wood with smoke piped in from a small wood burner

2) Birdhouses look great when made from barn wood

3) Coat hanger boards with shotgun or rifle shell for hangers Also railroad spikes cut in half for hangers

4) Shadow boxes give that old fashioned look with those boards
