Still a newbie at all this. I'm getting a lot of pics on my cams of coon and fisher near water and long way from it, doesn't matter. I'm planning on getting some traps down next week in effort to help the turkey population. I've trapped coon before and didn't really have to do anything special to make it happen. Could use some opinions or methods on how the more experienced trappers target fisher. Or do you just make the basic fox set and get them that way???

I don't think fisher are very picky at all. I've caught them in so many places I never expected them to be. I even caught one in a conibear set underwater for otter.

Yes, fisher being opportunistic hunter/scavengers which will eat virtually anything can thus be caught in most any type set. The most common set for them is an elevated baited box (marten set):

Check your state regulations. Very common set in NY is the running pole set (you don't need a box). Best trap is 160. Use beaver as best bait, but others will work. Skunk lure works best.

Most sets will take them. In PA trappers get them in dirt hole sets for fox every year. I have caught all mine in coni-boxes with half a muskrat for bait & a skunky lure nearby

Till that day.....

The box is legal..We can use a conibear ..no bigger than a 5 inch jaw spread...which would be a 155 and or can't be set any higher than 3 ft off the ground and our limit is one.

I'm not saying you don't know that wv danimal..I just posted that so everyone else would know our regs.

IF IDIOTS GREW ON TREES THIS PLACE WOULD BE AN ORCHARD !

If you check every 24 hours use a foothold. That body grip size sounds crazy. Fisher ate not hard to catch just keep your sets on location.

Probably same as our KS "water set" regulation...as in NO logic.

Strange regs. In NY a conibear of 160 or 220 size must be a MINIMUM of 4' above the ground, except when set recessed within a box or cage. The 155's are legal on the ground.

With NY Regs. changed after a few dogs got caught in coni's, Back before they changed I loved to set the runs high on creek banks, Great for Grey Fox & Raccoons. When I set running poles, I always put a foothold close to thee base for the non climbers.Great when ya have snow & see how they work a set.
