Anyone tried to sell carcass fur lately and for what price?

Only price I heard was rats at a buck.

One would think inflation would drive fur prices up like everything else.

lol.. Inflation reduces fur prices. Keeping prices on final products affordable falls on us as per usual.

With a lot of the species and grades we have here in WI the price would be how much do I owe you for taking them?

Was told by the gentleman I sell my animals to it didn't matter condition, grade, size, color I could keep em all he wasn't buying anything this year

No we are the only group in the entire world that dont observe inflation effects. Its been a problem since 1980.

Matt I disagree we certainly do it drops the price of fur from being worth 0 to being worth negative

The fur buyers are likely going to charge a disposal fee this year.

Well at least for early caught and damaged fur for certain. Anything caught to early will get thrown out and charged to haul away. Good beaver, Otter, Fisher will be worth more than last year. A little early to tell about anything else, maybe sable?marten will be worth more , but they will have to be caught after the first of Nov. when they are beginning to have a cushion of underfur. No hope for coons, flatter red fox and any coyotes except from the best sections.

Green bellies are a problem on days old carcass fur. Rats are the worst.

No.......I know for a fact.. marten won't have to be caught after Nov 1st..Jerry sold his October caught marten last year...300 of them ( hed held em for a while..they were not all obviously from one year(for a 40.00 average..nose count..and he did not sell them to FH and a buyer has already contacted me about jerrys marten he's caught this year and told him he wants them at the same or better price than last year.

Part of em went to Oregon and part of em went to Minnesota.

But they all went for a good price..none sold for less than 35 and only 20 had feet on them. The average was 40.00

But these marten were tanned for the tourist trade correct?

2 Regular well known fur buyers. Both are registered Tman nembers. Big Buyers...

They were raw.

We don't sell tanned fur..too much money in tanning for us.

Jerrys brother sells tanned furs but Jerry didn't sell yhem to him either.

There was an order in the country for 1000 marten last season


Jerry had sold some to a buyer but the buyer that contacted me on tman bout all he had left.

He caught 75 last month in wyoming and the one buyer has already contacted Jerry and told him he'd pay what he paid at a minimum but it would probably be more because he said the marten market is looking stronger.

Spoke with a friend who happens to be a fur dealer in New York state and right now is paying $2 for Red Fox in the round, and not buying many despite being one of the few buyers left in the state. $2 for December New York Red Fox that need to be skinned, stretched, turned, brushed, and maybe even washed could be to much given the current value of the fur.

The original producers of many natural resources actually suffer during inflationary times. The more middlemen between the producer and the consumer the worse it is.
It's the increased costs of processing, transportation, and labor that work against the original producer.

Particularly when it comes to higher end discretionary consumer items like fur, high priced food products, etc..
People have an upper limit that they will pay for discretionary items.

Weren't you guys alive during the boom days of the 70s and early 80s? Inflation ran amok and it was one of the most profitable times to be a trapper.
