I never had a reason to handle a live beaver. They either have died from lead poisoning, gripped by a body grip, or breathing water. X2

Yet to be bitten. The trick to live beaver is watch the birdie left hand while the right gets a lock on the tail.
But I don't recommend it. One day I saw a beaver going slowly across the road, and I had the fool notion to jump of the four wheeler and grab it by the tail just as it was going down into the ditch, it about jerked my shoulder of socket. No holding onto that.

No holding onto that. You got to get those back feet off the ground. Which is why I don't recommend it because then weight comes into play. I've only picked up a couple snared ones. Enough to confirm that it can be done and shouldn't be done, lol.

It's a long story but I grabbed a medium sized black beaver by the scruff of the neck one time when my 22 malfunctioned. There were 3 people in the truck that watched the whole operation. I got ahold of him but there was no way I could hang onto it. He tried pulling me in the creek with him.
I have nothing clever to put here.

As a teenager I grabbed one by the tail to keep it from getting away after it had been shot. I didn't get bit but I got very wet.

Had one last week, humped up in the water in a 330 belisle, wire was hung on something when i tried to pull it up, i was standing straddling the beaver as it was a deep run going into a bank den, slick clay. Untied the wire from the tree i had it tied to and reached down the back of the beaver to find the trap to pull it loose and soon as my hand touched that beaver it came back to life and threw a fit, i leaped across to the bank like a deer, lol. Now i had a thrashing beaver in the trap that was no longer tied off to anything!
It finally calmed down and i was able to shoot it, trap was just stuck in that slick clay, was only thing holding it. Reason it wasn't dead all it had in the trap was one back foot! Goofy
But no ive not been bit by one yet, but i'll also poke each one now before i got to pull it out of the water to make sure it's dead!
Not my circus, not my clowns.

Was trapping the river, doing some snaring up on the bank. Had a big beaver in a snare that could reach the water. Got the pistol out to shoot him, but wanted a good head shot, so pulled on the snare, and was too quick the first time. The second time he charged me like a mad bull! I was stuck in the mud at the edge of the water, and he bit me on the knee, lower teeth on the back of the leg and the upper teeth on the outside. Spit me out and jumped back in the water. I unstuck myself and went up on the bank and started pulling off clothes, thinking I’d need a tourniquet. Holes in my chest waders, holes in my coveralls, cuts in the fabric of my jeans, and red marks on my leg. That was too close for me, gents! Last time I ever got in a circle where one could reach me, had to improve my longer range shooting skills!

I was standing on one in a snare after tapping it on the head. Was trying to make it breathe water to keep a low profile instead of shooting. I lost track if where he was. It bit through my waders and two pairs of socks but didn't get any skin. Lesson learned.
Life ain't supposed to be easy.

It was enough to say screw that and just do what I got to do and get on to the next job.
