For me the ones I have shot the most and always worked.

My ruger mk2 government. It's killed from Mice to deer it's always worked and I have shot it more Than all other handguns I have ever shot combined.

My Benjamin Sheridan .20 cal blue streak. It served me well for decades. I had it redone by Mac 1 last year. I can't count the critters that have fallen to it.

I have had and have many others but these two are special.

I have a Remington 700 chambered in .243 that was made produced in the early 70s. I love that gun,

Wow, so many have been stellar! It seems that I selected guns that were right for me and the hunting plans.

Ruger Mark II stainless target bull barrel has taken truckloads of coon from high in trees.
Browning Challenger II has done the same.
Ruger Red Label has taken loads of pheasants.
Remington 1100 LH slug gun has taken countless deer.
Remington 1100 magnum has taken countless ducks and geese.

My dad’s Marlin 39A Golden Mountie was incredibly accurate and fun to shoot. We burnt up a lot of $4 a brick ammunition. I wonder where that gun went?

Sadly I sold my guns when downsizing and raising money for other purposes.
Probably should have kept one.

I'm far from a "gun nut".

What I want in a gun is one that always shoots, and always hits where I want it to.

For me that has been my Remington Model 31 20 gauge pump shotgun. Not a critter alive I've not killed with it...from squirrels to coon, to deer.

Where I grew up you could only hunt deer with shotgun. I moved from there to states that allow rifle hunting of deer 17 years ago and still haven't got around to buying a deer rifle... because I know that old shotgun will drop the deer every time.

Had those in both ADL and BDL models. Never a bad one..good wood back then as well.

My Remington 788 chambered in 22-250. Put a lot of predators down with it.... along with an H & R long tom 10 gauge. And my Remington Nylon 66, it is one of the most carefree guns I have ever owned (I have several but use only 1) it's a blast to shoot and the tube in the stock is easy to reload,

CZ 550 in .308 , the varmint model with 26” heavy barrel and Boyd’s stock. Tack driver. Like all other things nice, they quit making them.

Remington 597 .22 , Has killed a pile of squirrels

Remington 870, can shoot a Duck then use it to paddle your canoe home lol. Tough gun

New England .204 , Handi rifle varmint model. Also tack driver, killed lots of critters

My favorite non magnum rifle is a Sako .284 Winchester magnum rifle it's a toss up between a .300 Weatherby or a .375 H&H or a .338 Winchester

For a shotgun it's a Benelli 12 ga 3 1/2 " chamber Nova I've killed a lot of geese and ducks with that shotgun !

I tend to not buy "cheap" or low-quality guns. So, "best" is hard to say. I've had some "favorites", for sure.

Glock 29
CVA Mountain Rifle .50 cal flintlock
Browning A-Bolt Stainless Stalker .375 Weatherby Magnum
Ruger 77 "boatpaddle" .300 Win Mag
Winchester Model 21 in 16 gauge

I'd have to say my favorite gun is my tikka 695 in 338 wm. It's topped with a vx- 3 cds. When I get serious about hunting it is my go to but I must say my browning hells canyon speed in 26 nosler is no slouch either and could potentially be the new king in my gun safe.

I have always been fond of my 25-06s for range hunting. I have one in Ruger m77 mk2 and one in Rem 700 bdl varmint bull barrel. However for deep woods hunting I have grown very fond of my little Howa 1500 in 6.5 grendel. Short and light with plenty of punch. [Linked Image]

Steyer Mannlicher in 6.5x55 Swede. Wish I still had it. It was for many years my goto for most things that needed to be put down.

My old 22-250 Remington 700 has a lot of miles and made a lot of fur and meat
