The two weeks notice never seemed to work out well for me but just leaving without any notice dosen't seem right, so what , in y'all opinions are the best was to quit a job in a professional manner.

The two weeks is still considered professional courtesy. However in practice employers terminate immediately rather than have an employee riding the clock for two weeks.

Act accordingly.

If your quitting for more money go to the head honcho. Tell him you have another job offer for x amount of money and see if they will match it or offer you some other incentive. If not be polite and give him a written two week notice.

Those who would give up essential liberty, to purchase a little temporary safety, deserve neither liberty nor safety. Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

I would go talk to your immediate supervisor and tell him exactly what the situation was and leave on good terms, even if that means being escorted out immediately.
That way you can say you did the right thing
If your supervisor is the reason, go to his boss

No reason to burn bridges unless you have to

Why is the two week thing not working? Best way to leave to make sure you get all your PTO and possible some extra weeks pay, or they tell you not to come in and still have to pay you for those weeks when i left my hospital job. Also keeps some avenues open if for some reason you need to go back there.

It’s your reputation your dealing with. Do whatever you want to be known for!

if you got the new job lined up , you go to your manager or managers that you report to with a letter in hand.

to whom it may concern
I wolfie have accepted a position with another company for better opportunities my last day is today +14
I am willing to help train my replacement through my last day.

thankyou
wolfie

I have never not worked till the last hour of my last day then again I have only left 3 jobs in 30 years everyone said thankyou and if you ever want to come back we would be happy to have you.

Everyone thinks they are sticking it to the boss if they just walk out Truth is more often than not they do not care They are being paid to do a job and will just put someone in the job as they are told to do .And no matter how skilled they are all of us are replaceable Perhaps not as fast or smart or dedicated but will be there doing what he must do to keep his job .It i better of you to rise above the urge to try to show someone that you made things worse for them as payback for some thing that happened on the job

X 2 only had one place told me not to do the 2 weeks.

I say ignore all these other posts and take Savell's advice once he has time to reply. Going forward, you'll find it a lot less hassle to just PM him for advice on your important life choices from the start.

I would line up my next position and then give the standard two weeks notice. If you have good reasons to leave this job place to move on you also don't need to get into a bidding war for wages and benefits in my opinion.
I gave a two months notice when I left my dairy herd managers position so they would have time to find my replacement. They had no one when I left and yest those were two of the tuffest months I have ever had in the work force.

How you leave a company also speaks to the one you are joining. Do it right.

That's a bit of a loaded question without a cut and dried answer.
There are variables at play which will dictate the proper procedure.
Generally, discuss it with (whoever) and come to a mutual agreement that fits the scenario at hand.
Do your part by being the good guy the best you can.
Don't scar your reputation any more than may be necessary.
Hope you're "movin' on up" smile

Don’t burn any bridges. If the company is dramatically dependent upon you and have been good to you give them as much time as they Need. Or as much time as you can afford to give them. One company I worked for 10 years who’s good to me and I gave them one years notice.
