I have some really good locations on fence rows but I don't want to accidentally kill a deer. so what is the best way of doing things

(I have a loop stop at 2 1\2" right now and it dispatched the for for me)

We here In WI are limited to a 2 1/2" loop. I have never had a deer caught by the leg.

You can't put stop to save a doe that wont let pretty much as anything smaller than a bear walk out of it. Stay out of the fences if you want to avoid deer

Deer don't use trails ????????? laugh

Most snared deer are neck caught and a deer stop won't help one bit.
Breakaways, have their place, but deer stops are BS , IMO
You set enough snares, you'll end up lookin' at a deer one day.
Don't let that spook you ,
set the snares !

The odds of catching deer in trails is minute compared to fences. Sans snare stops, youd actually catch more deer in coon snares than coyote smares.

Neck caught deer normally end up dead.
