Chain for me. I have had cable before and it will start to fail after a few years of full time use.

I always use wire to tie off lethal sets, including snares(except wolf). Wire is cheap and when kinked can be re inforced,or replaced. No guessing if it is good or not like cable. Replaced wire can be re used/recycled on the line for many other everyday purposes on a multi species trapline.

10' of 1/8'' cable with a 1'' loop on each end and a carabiner. all big body traps have a 2'' loop of 1/8'' cable on one spring eye with a 400 lb hog swivel and tag. Clip carabiner to that. Don't use cheap ones.....
Just passin through

10 ft of cable for me too. I put one in-line swivel about 2 ft away from the trap and then a quick snap at the end of the cable making it easy to loop around a tree limb or whatever. Cable is easy to wrap around your trap when you are ready to move it too. I used to use wire but when I switched to cable there was no going back.
My fear of moving stairs is escalating!

On my Belisle 330s I use 6 ft of #2 chain with a single stake end attached. I also have a heavy duty split ring attached on the tree so I can tie off if a tree/root is close instead of staking... Cable is nice but it starts to kink bad after a while and will eventually rust into if submerged too long.
Sit with warriors. The conversation is different.

You’re right about the cable rusting if it’s galvanized. I put 1/8” 7x19 GAC on my 330s. I liked the flexibility of the 7x19, but after a while....the galvanized cable rusted. I started using stainless 1/8” 7x19 cable for my 330s and never looked back. I think the stainless 7x19 is absolutely worth the investment.

![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2022/12/full-11679-160649-20221212_124917.jpg) 1/8" diameter 7x7 cable, a loop in one end large enough to fit the swivel and snap through, and a crunchproof swivel with locking gate carabiner on the other end. These can be looped around trees, limbs, roots, or staked. They can just be clipped to each other for extensions, if you need more length. Thus, I make a variety of lengths, because sometimes I want longer, or shorter cables.... Right answer, where I'm from

All of my 330s have about 3-4 feet of 1/8” cable with a snare end swivel. I usually use my stabilizer’s leg.
Many places I trap have clay soil which means that the 20”+ leg of my 330 stabilizer works well anchoring my traps’s swivel.
My 48” H-stands are useless for anchoring traps due to the legs being too short. For those, I have to wire or stake my 330 to something nearby.
If the soil is loose or there’s a chance of theft, I either use an extension cable or I’ll use a wolf fang on 20” of cable with a fixed loop. I attach the loop to the eye of my Trap’s swivel. While this may work well in securing the trap, I am very careful when using them. This is the one exception to how I set 330s, because every large trap I use has some form or another of a quick release in case I catch myself and don’t have the means to compress the springs. I already know how well my 330s hold, so I’m in no hurry to become not only caught but staked down.
I like your advice on having a quick release on the 330's. Nasty day out today so I'll be putting this to use out in the barn
