last Wednesday at 3 am we heard the craziest noise, I went outside and just above the roof of the house was thousands of snow geese. It sounded like a jet, 10 minutes later they started to crash into the house, shop, phone poles, power lines and 2 of the 3 street lights we have in our little town.

It is about 50 ft from our deck to the fence, there were several hundred geese had landed in the yard.

When it got daylight I went out and there were dead geese everywhere, I picked up 8 dead ones in the back yard alone. There were several thousand snow geese in the field in front of the house.
I called odfw, they came out and picked up 32 snow geese and 2 swans in town. They didn't pick up the ones around the out skirts of town. 3 ranches to the west of us had the same thing. All in all there were over 100 dead geese

Odfw thinks it was caused from the lunar eclipse and it was snowing hard at the time

All I know is that's the craziest thing I've ever seen or heard of

In 1968 we had the same thing with canada geese. They mistook the mink sheds (with aluminum roofs) for a lake on a dark night. Hundreds of dead and wounded geese (most with broken legs). We ate a few and ground the rest for mink feed.

I believe that.I have seen goose hunters around here spread out a big blue tarp in a field,,the geese think its a pond,,open water and will come into it.

One of my favorite sayings is Mother Nature can be very cruel . I can only guess that you where standing there thinking what is go in on !!!

Our house and shop roofs are red metal, we have a big shop (60x80) over a few blocks from our house, it's got a white metal roof and green walls, there were a few dead ones that hit it as well. This was just crazy

Snow geese are fragile little creatures. They kill eachother every day. They migrate in such large quantities that when they land they are very densely packed in a field. When they get up to leave there are so many birds in such a small area that some get killed.

Think Walmart greeter stomped to death on Black Friday.

Early 70's in Mound City Missouri a dense fog had them flying low and hitting TV antennas.

Back in my teenage years, a buddy and me were making a drive along this swamp pheasant hunting. We jumped a pheasant between us. We both opened up on him and neither of us were able to even ruffle a feather. We watched as he flew away untouched and hit a high line wire. He dropped and was stone dead when we found him. Don't know if he broke his neck or was knocked out and got killed when he hit the ground.

I used to have a video of a goose coming into our spread and doing a back flip after hitting a power line. But never heard of a whole flock crashing

No we can't use them for bait in good old liberal oregon. Eagles and coyotes slicked up the ones on the outskirts of town
