Well hunting season has finally kicked off for me and my neck of the woods. Went out scouting for moose the other evening and as I was standing there on a knoll glassing a flat a little bunny came running by me about 4 ft and hot on its tail was a ermine! About 20 yds away I heard a tussle and the cry of the bunny. Pretty cool to see! Been on the bears, keep hoping for a blackie or two but the brownies keep rolling in. They are on fish now so unless it is a toad like the last one it will walk. Look at the time stamps. Is this a smart moose or a lucky one? Me calling it a night... Momma moose and calf..... Same... See the eyeball behind the barrel? Middle of picture. Mr Bear... Be safe out there guys!

Spent the past few days out chasing moose, honestly more of a recon then hunt. Of course I seen and bumped more freaking brown bears then I did moose in a unit where I cant shoot them. Came back out yesterday and Team V had sent me a package from Glacier Bear Products from up in North Pole. Really excited to get some of this stuff out there and see how it preforms! I read a few reviews on their FB page and hear good things about their bubblegum burn concentrate. The stuff is different then what I have been using, it simmers in a pot with water with no smoke. Seems like it would last longer then a normal burn. Anyone have experience using any of these products?

Hi Dutch!
When the herd in our house thins out I'm going to get a big blockheaded slobbering Chessy and name him Ghengis! I told my brats that, oldest teased me back "yeah, and when your minibike breaks down you can have him tow you back! Mush Ghengis!"
Rumors of my assimilation have been greatly exaggerated.

Thanks guys Well bear baiting is a wrap for the year. just couldn't get the joker to show up when it was light enough to see him. And of course for the first time since I started baiting I had to haul bait out! The pigs will eat well and is a little incentive for next year I guess Had the pleasure of teaching at the ATA trapping school yesterday for the South Central Chapter. Pretty good size class and alot of youngsters! Looking forward to seeing everyone on Tuesday for the first general meeting of the year. Been chasing the ducks an getting bait together for the season. Pretty much my focus right now. Be safe out there guys!

Well we finally got a little snow Still waiting on a few parts for one sled but the other is ready to go. Traps are packed in the totes and the bait cut up and wired. Plan on breaking trail and doing a little maintenance on a few snare lines prior to the season kicking off. The only thing lacking is big baits. Not a lot of moose getting smacked on the hwy which is a good thing. So if you know of anyone looking to get rid of any dead critters hit me up I will travel within 100 mile radius of Wasilla. Be safe out there guys!

Well today the season opened up down here. We have some snow but right now it is that wet sticky junk. There is maybe 2inches of ice under it enough to hold the sled but one step off and up to your ankle or knee. Got the main line broke and set a few sets. Only did a few snares and that is were I saw sign. Calling for rain this weekend so saw no point in burning the energy. Not alot of track an especially very little bunny sign. Could be because it is so warm right now we will see once the temps drop again, And of course, when things are going smooth you find the only place that has skim ice and then snow,,,,,,, that is my sled with my totes in the back of the pic. Be safe out there guys!

bfisch I hope you good conditions when you head out! Not targeting mink out on the main line, not really a market for them and last year they were pretty thin so I plan on giving them a break. But here at the house it is a different story. I got to many ducks and chickens running around and I enjoy seeing the babies in the spring both domestic and wild. Got home last night and dropped 2 blind otter sets and a mink box on the back side of my pond. First catch of the season A little female mink. In the past 2 days 2 of my buddies got stuck pretty good. One had to walk out, recovery ops planned for tomorrow, the other got unstuck but is feeling it tonight. Be safe out there guys!

This past weekend the temps went up to the low 40s we got rain followed by snow and rain followed by sleet Sure glad I didn't hang snares like I normally do. Froze up Monday night and stayed below freezing figured I'd give it another day and rolled today. Picked up the first marten of the year. A nice dark one which aint normal on my line, normally they are orange Last run I saw track on a bunny trail picked up this guy. I knew something would run my trail when it froze over. Sure enough nice dark red. Ted's Meowch struck again Had another kitty work a cubby from the back side and stole my bait, That was a first for me. My trail is pretty solid now, Dropped all my snares and pretty much got out the gear I want for right now,, I am land locked untill we get a hard freeze. The river and creek is still wide open. Be safe out there guys!
