How many of you do it and what types of sets do you use?

Our season doesn't even open here for another few weeks. I run trail sets with snares and 3N's, cages where practical and will build some cubbies baited with Beaver. Trapping cats here in the Cedar swamps is far different than Southern Idaho though.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Cubbies are the best in deep snow, and handle the weather really well, not sure what kind of country you trap in, or what kind of trees you have, out here we trap in a lot of pine and spruce, with lots of rock piles.

Hard to beat snares if you can use them where you're at.

Cats in cubbies and snares, coyotes in snares. I don't know anyone who does well trapping coyotes with footholds in deep snow. If there are good methods I'd like to hear about them.

Stan Forsyth has a video on leg hold yote trapping in snow. Pretty easy. Sent posts in the right location, tosses a drag off to the side in the snow. Don’t just sprinkle snow over the trap, be hard as rock in half an hour. He uses a small shovel to scoop off a thin layer of snow and slip it over the trap….so the snow on top of the trap is undisturbed. I slipped my trap in a small plastic bag.
Snares rock though!

If I can get out this year I always wanted to try bobcat sets like they do up north for lynx.

Cats can often be targeted in thick cedar tree stands. Often you can find a spot or two in the cedar trees where snow is minimal and the cedar duff is actually pretty dry. As was just mentioned look for windblown areas for the coyotes, they will hunt the areas where they dont have to contend with deep snow cover if given an opportunity.
