I have a 30-year old Honda Fourtrax. I only use it for hunting so it is rarely cranked in the off season. It received a new carb this year and has only had ethanol free fuel since then. Should I drain my fuel at the end of the season or top off the tank and ad Staybill?

Add Stabil, top off tank, crank and run motor for several min. Shut off fuel valve while engine still running and let it run until motor shuts off.

This is what we did for years with state issued ATVs and outboards and never had a problem.

Also, when you buy non-ethanol fuel are you sure it is actually that?

Depends on if its American fuel or foreign fuel when you park it.

Stabil is formulated to stabilize ethanol gas. Its as much use for non ethanol fuel as an air freshener on a motorbike. With the " modern " read cheap materials used these days to build engine parts and most with also carburetors and such, Regardless if you use the good go go juice or the corn variety, the best bet is to pour whats left in the tank into your truck and drain the fuel system before you put it to bed for the off season. then start fresh when you need it again.

Getting mixed messages :

STA-BIL® Fuel Stabilizer is specifically designed for storing fuel rather than for use at fill-ups. The stabilizer works with all types of gasoline, including ethanol blends. Please be advised that adding more stabilizer to long-stored fuel that has already been mixed with the liquid will neither prolong nor improve the life of fuel.

STA-BIL® Fuel Stabilizer works in all 2-cycle and 4-cycle engines, as well as 1, 2, 4, 6 or 8 cylinder engines. Although this product is used for preservation of fuel in stationary vehicles, other fuel treatments are required for daily-use vehicles, and marine vehicles.

I switched from sea foam to Startron Enzyme fuel treatment. I use to have to clean a carb or two a year after sitting. I haven’t had a carb off of anything for years. The stuff is amazing. Was hard to get at first, now it’s everywhere, not cheap, but works like nothing I’ve used before. I use it in 4 snow machines, several old outboards, mud motors, 2 old Honda Ranchers, 2 lawn mowers and a generator.

Put a glug in a 5gal can in the fall b4 putting stuff away then again in spring and your good to go.

I use stabil on engines I know I’m going to use in a few months. But, if I know it’s going to be closer to a year or a little more than a year. I will drain the tank and run the motor till the carb is dry. I always use non- ethanol gas in small engines and 89 oct.

I have 8 outboards, 3 four wheelers and a couple of Honda power packs, and a couple of Honda generators. I store them for ten months at a stretch. I top them all off with non-ethanol gas with Stabil additive. The only thing I do different with the outboards is I fog the engines with 1/3 gas, 1/3 fuel stabilizer, 1/3 fogging oil.

I have done this for many years in a very hostile marine environment and I never have a problem starting my engines the next summer.

Be sure you run your engines for a while so that the stabilized fuel gets completely through the engine system. This can take some time especially with fuel sipping engines like the Hondas.

Problem with this is when you have a steel gas tank, which is possible with his 30 year old machine. Ive seen empty tanks rust on the inside. Better off keeping them full in storage.

Add a little Sea Foam you're good to go.

Use marine sta-bil. It's for ethanol blended gas. I have a Polaris Ranger 6 years old, doesn't get run much. I think I'm only on my third tank of fuel in 6 years , no fuel problems so far.

must have good gas around here, I have 2 riding mowers, a push mower, 2 chainsaws, a leaf blower and a pressure washer. I use premium non-ethanol gas in all of them, thats it. The pressure washer has sat for over 3 years at a time and always starts. The rest may sit for anywhere over 8 months.

Startron is what I use. I used to use Stabil or run them dry, but I have been told that running them dry for storage leaves all the seals and what not in the carbs dry and causes them to crack and have as many problems as ethanol gas. I don't know that I believe that, I've not had issues with doing so, but maybe I was just lucky. But I've had great luck with Startron, better than anything else I've used.
