Been seeing more and more dead on the road looking for water. So needless to say he wasn’t caught in a mink set, but a #3 victor dls castor mound set, high front foot catch on a drowner. I have to say I was excited to see that in the trap but man do they have a smell to them….

Nice big mink. I remember my first one. Thanks Boco, being my first one I’m not too familiar with sizes and not sure if he was a big one or normal.

I dont think mink die off due to a dry summer. They are quite adaptable and could make it through. As I stated the dry summer did a number, because I’ve seen more dead mink on the side of the road than I ever have. If they’re dead on the side of the road where a dried up creek is, then yeah due to the dry conditions they were searching for new water ways and got hit by a car. Can’t adapt to avoiding cars

Yup...I think we all remember our first mink.
I thought I caught a juvenile otter...but then the stank changed my mind !
Nice catch !

Congrats. Next time don't remove the saddle when fleshing and pin the hind legs on the same side as the tail, not the belly side.

YES, put otter up just like mink. With otter front legs cut off short and nail or sew closed rather than tucking them in.

The only constant in trapping is change so keep learning.
