Develop a plan and work hard to make sure you don't repost this at 30. Time goes fast but is on your side right now- take advantage of that.
I'll error on the high side on your wages, if $19,000 represents a full-time job- you can do just about anything for more than your current $9 an hour. Stay at home, work full -time and go to school at night- you'll be too tired to interact with your parents and they'll be too proud to bother you.

Just move out, you'll figure it out in a hurry. The day I graduated from High school, I packed all my things in my car and took off. I love my parents but I was ready to be free. I didn't even have much of a plan other than to go to the mountains and camp and fish, and life just took it from there.

Around 30% of people that start as engineering majors graduate with that degree. I watched people around me drop like flies and flock to business and economics majors.

If he isn't motivated to stay the course, which it doesn't sound like he is, he will never make it in engineering school. It is not a major that gives you the college experience you envision

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Find a room mate. Be very careful if its a female. I'm assuming you are male.

Stay at home.

As someone with a bachelors and master degree, I would look into a trade school unless your dream job requires a 4 year. Many of my friends went to trade school and made a good bit more than I did when I finished school. I have friends who are linesmen who make a ton of money. Medical field is good too. We have friends who have 2 year nursing degrees and have worked their way up through hospitals and they make very good money.

Everything else you have discussed are just minor inconveniences.

Bottom line it takes money. How do you want to live? Do you want to be comfortable in life or poor and struggling a good part or all of your life.

So if you want to by pass being poor Figuer out the best path that leads to making a good living. Trades are great but a lot of then are hard on your body. No big deal when your young but makes a difference when your older

Learn to work hard and SAVE. Don't spend money unless it saves you money or makes you money and avoid debt.
