I set one dirt hole and then a post set nearby. 2 and sometime 3 sets at a location for me. Usually just two. I get about half my coyotes in one other the other, and I do get some doubles. Jim

In my opinion, the best bait for coyote is another coyote. If you have one caught already, it's dancing and singing will definitely bring in any others in the area. A second or even third set will increase your catches. I like to use one highly visual and one suttle like a step down and a urine post or blind set like jabNE suggests.

I do have one location that is a hot location for me consistently season after season. Little weedy drainage ditch right through middle of a field. It’s over the hill a bit just enough you can’t see it from the road, and it is literally the coyote highway between a big pasture and pond and another stretch of land that must be interesting to them. The ditch is fairly deep but has crossable spots. Maybe 20’ wide and about 10’ or less deep, tall weeds on both sides, occasional small cedar tree. I put my sets near the cedars as they are the only visual difference along the weedy edge. I put sets on both sides of this and get a lot of doubles here. It’s just one of those spots. I have no clue if on those doubles they were traveling together or if one was caught and other one came by and got caught in the other set. But it’s been a fun spot to walk into and then carry two back out. It’s a walk in only location too, as are most of my land access spots. Dirt hole set with bait one side, post set the other side. The combo always works for me. Most of time it’s singles not doubles but it’s been fairly well balanced whether they were caught in bait or pee sets. The remakes have always been good and I usually use bait only at the remakes. There is already plenty of pee and poo from the first catch or two at the remake and I found bait at remakes seem to work better for some reason. I don’t use a lot of gland lure these days. A little but not much and it’s usually something non coyote, like beaver caster, mink gland, or bobcat. Not sure why I started doing that long time ago but it works for me around here anyway. Jim Got a jillion pics of catches at that location. You get the point. Could be traveling one side or the other so I set both sides and always glad I do.

If a location is good enough for one set, why not two, or three? Dirt holes, pee post, walk-through or blind sets. Mainly use baits, very little gland lures, especially at remakes.

Blind set, no bait lure pee or hole, invisible. Flat set, blind set with lure bait or pee. For the post set do you make a post or just spray some urine on a clump of grass? Pretty much. Step down is a version of a dirt hole right? Yes.
This varies depending on where you learn it from.

This is GREAT stuff guys. Really helping the learning curve.
Brings up some more questions.
Is a blind set literally just a trap bedded and hidden say 10' from the first where I think they may step
I see flat set a lot. Is that the same as a blind? Yes, a blind/flat set can be placed anywhere where an animal will step. Place the set directly under sign, add some minimal directional guiding to target the pan (optional). Blend to the surroundings, you're done. No baits, lure, or pee just pure ambush. They work well at narrow points in a good trail. They can be used by themselves, in multiples and in conjunction with other style trap sets. Step down is a version of a dirt hole right?
For the post set do you make a post or just spray some urine on a clump of grass? For the most part a step-down or trench sets are modifications of the basic dirt hole set. Post sets = use what you will natural or trapper placed, post, tree, bush, grass, ect. Think of it as walking your dog down the street, he or she stops at every object to smell what has passed through their environment lately. That is what you're mimicking with a post/pee set (curiosity).

I use a stepping stick on blind sets in trails usually. You need to find a place they are going to step anyway to make a blind set. Don’t just put it somewhere that a dog might step. Set on sign and in an area that they are naturally funneled into.

I was always told to put your trap right before the trap because a coyote will step before the stick so he can clear it as it passes through. Just curious what your thoughts are.

I put it just past the trap, but I am really guessing on the direction of the coyote….. I just figured it would increase the odds either way. Seems like they just try to avoid stepping on the stick either way. I wouldn’t try to put a stepping stick on each side of it because I’d be worried they just step over the whole mess.

I probably don’t do things right but I set 95% dirt holes. I don’t mix sets very often. I use flat sets by themselves. Here’s some multiple dirt hole sets.

Two great reasons for double or gang setting is non-target catches sometimes show up first & multiple sets allows more bait/lure odors in a concentrated area
TILL THAT DAY.....
