Fellow tried to sell this as a bark peeling draw knife.
Looked more to me like a fleshing tool.
One edge is sharp, other is flattened off ... dull.
Bowed end to end and arched up edge to edge.
A bit rusty, but would clean up nicely.
Can see where the handle attachments were welded to the blade, looks factory tho.
Recognize it ? anyone ?
Thanks
oh ... he wanted $65 for it. I passed.

That is a Sheffield fleshing knife.

There is a trick to sharpening those. Once you have a razor edge on it, you turn the edge downward 90 degrees with a turning steel. If you can get a look at a professional electric fleshing machine blade you will understand the concept. Maybe you can find it on Youtube.

Good find.

It's a fleshing tool, but certainly could be used as a de barker.

Good find.

What would you consider a reasonable price for it ?
The edges are flawless, except for the surface rust.
Thanks,
smile

Sheffield and Green English knives are both green now. Not sure they have always been that way though. I have never handled either but I would expect the Sheffield to have a makers mark of some kind on it. As stated in an earlier post, the Sheffield sells for around $150 new. The Green English looks very similar but sells for around $60.
