I use an army GI two strap duffel bag with a plastic wastebasket inside it to give it form. Its light, dry, and hold 3 beaver or 2 if they are big ones. I try to avoid it, but one in each hand and three in pack will get you 5 out, which is a heavy load in my book.

I used to bring a skinning knife and a sharpener whenever it was a long walk or Snowshoe in. I would also save the casters for making lure . One time when I was much younger I had a mile walk back to a marsh on public land and had 41 muskrats to carry back out in a pack basket so I ended up skinning them all back at the edge of the marsh. It was another trip to carry all the traps out but back then muskrats were bringing good money and I was a lot younger.

Yep, and bring a couple extra zip locks for whatever meat you want. It'll all fit into your packbasket

Aren't beaver open skinned so they can be field dressed? Can't remember who told me that but it'll drop a bunch of weight.

I’ve had three blanket beaver and two otter on a pack frame before, not something I want to repeat.

Paul Millette told me back in the old days-in the mid 1940s,before the ski doo was invented, He and the other trappers would walk 20 miles between cabins each day on snowshoes snaring beaver under the ice and trapping fisher(there were no marten in those days)(the reason some walked the lines instead of using dogs was that most had seeasonal work away and could not look after a team of dogs in the off season)
When they had a few beaver they would stop and cut a bunch of evergreens to sit on and make a fire and put on a billy can of water to heat.Then he would cleanskin the beaver.The hot water was to dip the knife to keep the fat from freezing to the knife.
When done he would take the beaver carcasses and make some fisher sets,and lynx snares nearby with the evergreen branches and the carcasses,after taking the beeter cuts of meat for food at camp.
They had to pack all the land fur cause it would be frozen solid.

Line cabins here were about 8 to 10 miles apart before snow gos. 20 miles is a long way on snowshoes. I have done 15 miles and wasn't dealing with trapping and it took all night.

One front foot one back foot carry on shoulder, a shoulder pad would help.

My shoulders work for singles sometimes doubles depending on size of catch haha!

My trapping buddy made me this carrier a couple of years ago. Clinch each sliding loop down on opposite front and back feet and just carry the beaver out like a 5 gallon bucket to your side super easy.

Loop front leg and opposite back leg (cattycorner) and carry out like a suitcase.

I carry couple dog choker chain collar the small link ones, easy to carry in pockets.
Put on opposing legs to carry out.
