Is it playing on the dunes to "protect" the plovers?

I wouldn’t call it playing, but yes, the plover project.

Wildlife services may be the only way left to trap here in a few years.

They supported the trapping ban for fur here in Colorado. They wanted to have it to themselves, job security.

^^ I'm surprised to hear that. You sure? Around here they seem to go to great lengths to stay out of the fracas on those kinds of things.

WS fought right along side fur trappers here in Oregon recently, against reduction of our trap check interval and against the proposed ban on beaver trapping on federal land.

No stance means they did not support trappers, which is the same as voting against AND we can be real honest about them using M44 bringing completely unwanted heat and attention to trappers. Zero reasons for anybody to use cyanide on animals in 2022, 100% should be outlawed, very shameful actually. They killed 812 gray fox, 6,653 coyotes, 68 red foxes and a few other all by M44 devices. They also killed 25k beaver, which just shows the point that WS is actually hurting recreational trappers and nuisance wildlife trappers ability to take care of their families.

I’m guessing that most of don’t know that federal and most State employees are PROHIBITED by law of taking a side in any political situation. I bet the state agency in Colorado didn’t take a side either. If fur prices warranted trapper effort to handle damage situations, wildlife services would probably fade away. But that is not the case.

Incorrect, I know for a fact. It was very quiet. I was very involved in that fight. And yes, publicly they appear to be neutral, maybe they learned a lesson on that one. But I still don't forgive them.

That is an intentional misleading statement, because Federal Agencies and State Agencies are NOT prohibited by any law from providing input or a statement of position to Legislators either through their Director, Secretary or Commissioner. The state agency definitely "took a side" in Colorado and it was to support the trappers, why? Because no matter how any of the employees in the state agency feel, that is where they get their primary funding from, only a few states provide funding from the General Fund to state Wildlife Agencies. In other words, foothold trap bans means less trappers which means less funding for the State Agency.

Just to make it very clear, I don't think anybody expects a Wildlife Services employee who wants to remain employed to speak out and provide an opposing opinion to legislators that are debating a trapping ban in the state. You see there is always a provision that precludes federal and state agencies from those rules, and Wy Wolfer nailed it right on the head. However what wont last forever is that WS operating in Colorado while normal trappers or ADC cannot, I can assure you of that.

Most livestock producers in my county are fine with Wildlife Services using M-44s.
