Everyone has a 30 pounder till you put it on a scale. Not many go 30 in Kansas for sure. They are rare everywhere, but in North Iowa I have caught dozens between 30-35 and a handful between 36 and 38. Weighed on a bathroom scale. Friend of mine made a rug out of one that weighed 42.

Not many go 30 in MO either Bernie. I doubt a lot do anywhere but they definitely get bigger as you go north and smaller as you go south.

Everyone has a 30 pounder till you put it on a scale. Some claim 50. lol You are right there are very few 30# coons anywhere when they are weighed on an accurate scale. There are some, but they are rare even in the areas of the biggest coons. Probably most of them live behind McDonald's dumpsters.

Well I will claim shooting a 50 lb coon. As a young kid we always had a gun over our shoulder and a dog in tow. One day the dog was going crazy at the mouth of a culvert. Well there was a coon In that culvert and we killed It. One of us crawled Into the culvert (not me) and dragged It out. It weighed some where around 50 Lbs This kill was made In the summer since we were out of school. I guess we never worried about hunting seasons. LOl Later on we found out from some of the neighbors that It was a pet coon that had escaped.

Right now there are about 1000 people saying, wait a minute I caught a coon larger than that in Missouri. I caught a 28 pound coon but it might have been the scale.

29 is my biggest, and that was a real memorable whopper. Still working for the mythical 30 here. Got a friend on here from time to time who got one over 30 and that was off the charts big. Didn’t even look real and man was it round too. Hey 1crazytrapper, I’m posting your gigantic coon pic. Hope you don’t mind bud! Money cannot buy you happiness, but it can buy you a trapping license and that's pretty close.

I've only seen 4-5 that were over 30 and one weighed on a good scale 33 pounds, the other were guesstimates. They seem to hit 25-28 pounds here and stop most of the time LOL
As my Dad says when someone says they caught a coon that weighed X amount, "Yeah, well how far did you have to carry him?"
Far better is it to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered by failure

They are almost all big boar coons. They have been around awhile to get that big and are usually the dominate in the area thus they get the spoils at breading time. The other coons in an attempt to remove him from the female grab and bite the tails. They get docked that way. It's pretty common where there is a decent population of coons. This is how it was explained to me and makes the most sense.
