So they are calling for rain and 12 degree weather, 12 degree rain is ice. For those of us that been here for a bit, we know what to expect, for ya'll that are new here, you are about to enter the hillbilly hunger games. Before the first flake is ever seen schools will close, businesses will be shutting down, and there will be a run on milk and bread like you have never seen. We don't get enough snow to be good at driving in it, so I suggest you do what you need to and get off the roads. A lot of towns have some steep hills that cars will not make it up, and if you don't want a bent bumper then you need to stay away from those. If you have trees with dead limbs in the tops, then don't park under them if we do get a freezing rain. All in all the best tip I can give you is to stay home when the weather turns nasty, it is not uncommon for us to have a 30 car accident because of bad weather.

In Asheville NC we are expecting snow any minute and 4-degree temps on Thursday morning. Probably will not snow.

Scuba1 Is the ground froze there? We had a high of -22 today. It shows a low of -25 tonight and that is what it is now. I agree with staying off the road with the non winter drives. It is bad enough here with all the oil boom transplants.

We lost power here for 2 days after a little rain turned into a little snow that turned into 6 inches
of the wettest stuff I have ever seen and is still hanging everywhere on the trees.
-5 tonight and some bad stuff on the way for the next few days.
If'n anyone runs into the climate change folks please send them over.

Good post Scuba, we are the same down here. Have no idea how to deal with the cold, and ice and wind are nightmares for the powerlines. Our infrastructure and homes are just not built for it.
Not trying to make fun of the situation, but this is funny!

I come from an island in the North Sea. Then we moved to the mainland, but still on the coast. So I am familiar with cold and snow and have prepared ( probably over prepared ) for what may be heading this way. I won't be standing in line for the classic french toast ingredients and other such nonsense. If I get bored, I'll screw the studs into the tires, grab the camera and go for a drive. Otherwise I'll be in my workshop trailer loading some ammo and may even see if I can knock over a deer. Lets face it, single digits and a bit of wind and snow is nothing that is worth getting into a tizzy about. Do the sensible stuff. Like when ya have to go out, put a blanket, some dry boots and socks and a shovel and such in the back of the vechile.... the usual winter stuff that should be in any car. and one is good to go for the most part. Those run down summer slicks are a no no though.

This is the truth. Buddy of mine outside of Athens has a curved steep road next to his pasture. He put a sign up " road is iced over, don't try it. $50 to pull you out of my field plus fence costs". Spent all day pulling people out of his pasture with his tractor. Made good money that day lol.

Take good care, Michael. I’d much rather have the -25 here , than what you will be dealing with. Going on two feet of snow since early this morning and still snowing. Got the emergency clothes bag in the vechile , as you do but I’m not planning on going anywhere for a couple days. Settled in, plenty of supplies. Gonna be a cold one again tonight. Take good care of your chooks, I know you will.

We are looking at -45 to -50 windchills here with blizzard conditions. The windchills will not go back above zero until next week.

So, 12 sounds pretty nice to me. That’s warmer than it is outside right now here for sure. But 12 with rain that turns into a skating rink for driving, no thanks to that either.

Sharon I put eisenglass I had left over from a few canvas jobs around the run so they are outside as far as the view goes, but out of the wind rain a blowing snow when it starts. Basically I built them a greenhouse yesterday.

I am looking forward to some snow so these two can have a proper romp around in it.
