Hey guys I am fairly new to trapping and targeting foxes and coyotes. I just gained access to 80-acre farm property that hasn't been trapped in at least 10 years. The main entrance has 150 yards of 10' chain link and a 16' farm gate for driving access. At the ends of the fence are large bodies of water. The property is mainly an 80 peninsula. I set cable restraints out on the obvious trails and one dig under and I caught two red foxes this month. I set more snares in the same area with no luck. The gate has been fortified with welded wire on the bottom half(knee-high). The top half of the gate has standard tubular welds with no additional wire. Do you think the foxes are jumping on the gate and getting thru the factory gate openings or would I be wasting my time hanging snares all over the gate openings?

Please do Not place snares on the gates! Find other places more out of sight to hang your snares please. Good Luck!

Hang them in gates you never know what else you will be catching. If it were me I would stick to the trails if you are going to only run snares.

Thanks. I forgot to mention it’s an abandoned farm at the end of a dirt road. But I get what you’re saying. Thank you

If there is that good of defined trails leading too and from the gate or fence you should be able to find good places to set snares, cables or footholds on that property.
How new or old is tlhe sign? Do you live in parts of PA with huge fox populations or fewer? 80 acres may be the home range of a pair (you got two) unless you are in heavy numbers or good dispersal areas.

Another vote for trails only.

Ever consider just setting a trap on either side of the gate, away from the fence ?

Say, four showy deep dirt holes on all four corners, twenty feet in all directions.
LDC up high, on both sides

( It wouldn't be past me . . . ) wink
