Just why is it us human gun nuts are never satisfied?
I've been thinking about getting a different critter getter. I've narrowed it down a bit. Thinking about a 22 Hornet, maybe a Ruger #3.
Don't ask me why, because I can maybe.
I've got other 22's, 223, 22-250, 220 Swift, etc. and NEED one like I need some other things.
What ya think?

I think you're overthinking it. Buy the dang gun. You don't need to explain to no one, except the missus.

Uve described my feelings for new shotguns. I absolutely dont NEED a Browning Citori and (not or) a double triggered side by side, but actually I do.

It's not always a question of need.

some people buy new furniture before it wears out , paint the walls before it is worn , get a new car every few years , spend a fortune on decorating for every season.

we get our fix from guns.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

Considering the current climate the only justifiable explanation needed is why not another AR type and several combat loads of ammunition and the gear needed to keep it.
Or a comparable effort into the political activity needed to keep it.

The best part of a single shot Hornet. You can shoot good pointed bullets with no clip restrictions. I have a Savage 24F Hornet that loves 40gr VMax kills coyotes dead. Got a Ruger 77 that could use anything pointed so I sold it.

a voice of reason might say , skip a new single shot and order 2K rounds of 223

Do you own a .17 hmr? I've got a little marlin SS and I shoot it about as much as all my other big rifles combined. It's great for rabbits off the deck. Probably big enough for fox. Great for grandkids. It probably won't cost you $800. Ammo's a bit hard to come by now, but you can still get it.

As far as I know there are only 3 rules that apply to how many guns you should own Rule # 1 It is impossible to own too many guns! Rule # 2 You only have 2 feet but you own more than one pair of shoes !!!The same principal applies to owning guns It is true you can only shoot one at a time .But that does not mean you only need one Rule #3 It is impossible to own to many guns!! And if you are not certain that you should own more than one .Remember this No matter how many guns you own You can take anyone from the gun safe and use it as often or as little as meets your reequipments And none of the other ones will complain or be jealous. And if you decide one you have no longer meets those requirements you can trade it for something different no questions ask So if a new purchase meets those 3 rules you are cleared to proceed .

I'd pic the .222 Rem over the Hornet too.

A couple of years ago I sold a 788 that I bought in the late 1960's. It was a darn good shooter but always split the case necks after only one or two loadings. A little while later I picked up a heavy barrel 700 in .222. The 788 was slightly sub MOA but the 700 cloverleafs at 100 yds. Like you, it was just something I wanted to have and play with.

I picked up a .222 a couple months ago. I just heard about a 788 .223 for sale today. I just might need another one.
