I'm looking at buying one of those 35000 btu forced air heaters. Might go larger as well. I'm not sure what would be better though. Propane or kerosene? I know kerosene will work at lower temps then propane. I'm planing on using for emergency situations and other jobs around the farm. What say you guys in the north where -40 is not unheard of?

If you are talking a torpedo heater I would go with diesel. I spoke to a friend yesterday trying to thaw pipes with a propane torpedo and it kept freezing up. I have one that is diesel and other than the exhaust stinking it is great.

Mine runs on kerosene or diesel, diesel is usually easier to find around here. I'm not sure of the btu output but It's on wheels and it takes two to load it in a truck. I've used mine twice in the last two days to thaw out pipes in a well house.

They're loud and the exhaust does stink but it works good.

If the btu rating is the same on the propane model than I would think it would heat just as well. I've thought about getting a smaller propane forced air heater that might be easier to carry/move but haven't looked at any.

I use a diesel/kero/jet fuel torpedo heater. I tried propane years ago and the tanks would freeze up

Propane will freeze up on you at the time you need it the most. Been there done that. Whih ever you get will need to vent it some or can kill you quick.

You can carry propane around in a bucket at -44F. It is almost useless in extreme cold. It won’t vaporize (turn from liquid to gas). Diesel is the way to go.

mine uses diesel or kerosene. I like using kerosene in it you don't have the smell like diesel though its more expensive.
