I see this auction place is having a "camo and ammo" auction that end tomorrow night. The box doesn't look that old. I guess at $6 a round, it would be a conversation starter...

Yeah, a buddy of mine had a pump 10 gauge. It was a rocker and a roller...

I had a SP10 but it actually had very moderate kick to it.

I took my double barrel 10 rabbit hunting, ONCE! Kicked like a rented mule, a near about weighed the same at 10 1/4 lbs. Wa strictly a duck/goose blind gun thereafter.

Back in the early 70's a friend of mine had one, or I should say his dad had one. They used it for waterfowl hunting. I think they outlawed 8 gauges shortly after that. I never shot it, never wanted to, I weighed about 110 pounds soaking wet at the time.

High school friend of my older brother had a 8ga in his gun collection. Him and my brother fired it behind his parents barn. I seen the gun never witnessed them actually firing it. I believe it was a black powder gun with brass cartridges. I have a double barreled 10ga I bought to shoot geese. Tripping both barrels with 3 1/2 goose loads is interesting but not crippling.

The rounds are impressive. If I recollect correctly, a nickel fits nicely into the crimped end of the shell.

shot some 10ga but never 8
10 is the largest you can use in many places for any game , WI limits you to a 10ga for game.
Take migratory game birds with a trap, snare, net, rifle, pistol/handgun, swivel gun, shotgun chambered for a shell larger than 10 gauge, punt gun, battery gun, machine gun, fishhook, poison, drug, explosive or stupefying substance or possess any shot shells larger than 10 gauge.
it appears to only be birds you can't hunt with it , Coyotes would be fair game , I doubt there are any 8ga slugs so deer would be out because we can't use bucks shot.

America only has one issue, we have a Responsibility crisis and everything else stems from it.

I have a friend in Florida that is into big bore shotguns. He is who does all of my pressure testing for me. He has an 8 gauge that he hunts turkeys with every year. He built the gun from scratch. I have worked on developing several mixed powder loads for the 8 gauge with him and I have shot it a couple times. Not the recoil you would think, not much worse than a 10 gauge
Gotta live up to the nickname...

Heck shooting anything at a target I notice some recoil. Shooting at game I never notice recoil at all. Slo-mo of me shooting my Dads 470 Nitro [video:youtube] https://m.youtube.com/shorts/Pv90ghGSrSU[/video]

Used to be a furnace tapper years ago...Used a Winchester carriage mounted, spring recoil, single shot, breech loaded 8 gauge slug gun.
Had to stand behind a I - Beam and pull a firing chain so the hot slag wouldn't blow back on you.
Shells were paper high brass, 750 grain lead slug....Always had to chock the wheels or the gun would walk back with each shot...If the furnace spout couldn't be blasted open by 50 rounds, the threaded carbon steel pipe was brought out.
Liquid oxygen, burn down a 20 ft length, re-thread a new pipe and go again until you got the furnace flowing molten metal into the ladle under the furnace spout.

Friend showed me a shell for an 8 ga. If I recall you could fit a nickel in the crimped end.
