So my boy wants to try hoop a few small beavers we caught. My question is can i flesh them, get them good and dry and rehydrate with water and get right to hooping? I dont care what the leather side looks like? There was an article recently in Trapper magazine where someone was drying beaver with borax and stretching then making seat covers and such? Hope this makes sense. Thanks.

Maybe I misunderstood the translation of the text, but in this case, nothing good will come of it.

If you borax a hide, it will basically be stuck in the shaped it was dried in. Probably wouldn't use it as a seat cover as it will likely crack over time. Things like arrow quivers ot other rigid objects could be done with boraxes hides.

You could probably just flesh it, hoop it and borax if it's going to live on a wall .

Hey Koisoi, is the price for castor over there still like it was a year ago? I ask because apparently it is dropping some here. (Linder, please excuse the intrusion)...

Between humidity and fur bugs I don't know how well it would hold up.

Tanning is pretty cheap from Moyle or Tubari.

If you are just going to hang it up, flesh it well, hoop it, let it dry, and hang it. A little salt won't hurt it, either.

Just doing what I want now.

Don’t really know about the borax bit as I have never used it, but if it was me I would just get a bottle of the orange trappers tanning solution and follow the directions except for breaking the hide, instead lace it into the hoop and let it dry, I have one on the wall that I did that way that has been hanging since the early 90s, if you take it down it’s stiff as a board but otherwise still the same as when I hopped it

And I doubt a big surplus is coming with these "drastically increased" bvr prices...Lmao
