Add them light? If not is probably why.

Factory egg farms have lights on 24/7 to get as many eggs as they can.

I have lights on timers inside and outside the coop so the chickens get 16 hours of light each day. We were averaging 9-10 eggs a day up until the cold snap. Our average dropped to three eggs a day over the last several days.
I think the extreme cold stresses them out.
Production should pick up again as we are getting back to near normal temps.
Eh...wot?

I read the subject line and broke out laughing. If I was a chicken I'd quit laying cold turkeys as well.

I had a dip in egg production during the hottest time in the summer. But my girls have been laying good all through the cold times. I don't have any artificial light for them but they get a pretty good high protein diet .... more so during these colder days.

Eggs can be safely frozen for a year. Just crack the extra eggs in a bowl, mix the the yolk and whites together and pour into a Ziploc freezer bag and toss in the freezer. If your hens stop producing for a while or you don't want to run lights and heat all winter you'll always have these to get you through.

Eggs in their shell keep for up to 3 month at room temperature. Longer if you rub them with vaseline. NOT STORE BOUGHT EGGS as they have the outer membrane washed off and have a short shelf life and have to be refrigerated

Like said again if you have light, feed and a little heat they do well in the winter months. I’m taking care of my neighbors birds now since he’s out of town and getting couple dozen eggs a day. He has light for most of the day, a heater going and feed/water available.
I always ran a heat lamp with a guard on it all winter and 2 lamps if it really got cold. The nice thing about a heat lamp is it has a clear base that gives off a nice amount of light.
Now if the bird flu would stop coming around I’d be a lot happier.
