Hence the reason so many trappers now use it.

I had a big male digging my stepdown dirthole from the backside. Finally set a trap on the back and had him the first night.

I will agree with Boone that in my experience a digger doesn't make a smart coyote

I trapped a farm this year that was actively being hunted by 4 different groups of thermal night hunters. There were two coyotes over there that would not walk anywhere near sets with smell. If we could snare here it would have been a piece of cake to catch them in the easily spotted fence crossings. What I figured out after looking in some odd places were that these coyotes were coming to the calls of the thermal hunters, but they were coming above where they typically setup by using these small drainage ditches that went through the large ag fields. The thermal hunters were never seeing them, but they were definitely coming to to investigate the sounds.

I took advantage of this and blind set the heck out of these ditches in any flat spots or narrowed places where they would likely step. Finally caught them both and a few other dumb ones in typical sets. It was an interesting game of cat and mouse and another time when a small bag of snares would have saved a couple weeks of headache

Gotta live up to the nickname...

Thought that was just their normal pattern. Down here you can set on tracks if you find them and make a catch the next day or on day 21, lol. I try and give them at least three weeks to make their rounds.
