Never even thought about packing a gun in church. Don't care if people do, one way or the other. I don't and probably never will.
I'm guessing most people that comment they do carry a gun 24/7 anyways and wouldn't matter if it was a church, yard sale or mother-in-law's wink

Probably true but considering how many hateful people have shot up religious places of various denominations I consider it just prudent to do so, but like you said I carry every place I legally can, and church is no different, if my church was to ban carrying I would look for a different one

My church has a security team. Some armed (current or retired police) and some aren't. We all have radio communication between us via earpieces. We also have an off duty police officer (in uniform) at the entrance.

Sadly we live in times where discussions like this have to happen and serious decisions are asked of church leadership. I've served as an elder in the San Antonio area and I'm currently pastoring a church in Michigan and in both places security teams are in place. It's just the world we live in. I'm of the opinion that churches should have a security measure in place so that if and when a person who intends harm shows up.... people don't start throwing bullets around at each other in panic.

It's a real deal. I was preaching the morning that the phone rang at our EFCA church in La Vernia, Texas and the police told our elder to "lock in place, there's been a shooting in Sutherland Springs 5 miles down the road from y'all!" We ultimately evacuated the building asap upon state police orders 30 minutes later. Our congregation had family/kin killed that morning just down the road from us, so the horrors or this broken world can come calling and we as church leaders should IMO be proactive when it comes to church security.

I don't carry (although I have my permit to do so) but our church is well trained in all aspects of security.
Sadly.

Blessings,
Mark

I got to church with a bunch of democrats so we have no security plan and I'm not sure if anyone is secretly packing. We would be the perfect soft target for a shoot em' up.

What makes it even worse is now we look at a screen for the words to song. Now I ain't even got a hardbacked Baptist hymnal to chunk at a would be shooter.

I know two ladies in their 80's that pack in church. I also know a CCW instructor that has done a class for a church congregation.

I am not the church going sort but anyplace that feels the need to have a "Security Team" along with "Radio Coms" sound like the place that I would certainly want to be armed at.

I have nothing clever to put here.

I do and several do at our church. We know who is and the board approves. Just a small country church with some common sense. Mike

Our church is located in a questionable urban area. Not the ideal location but it is hard to find a traditional Catholic Church in our area. As a result we have had at least one person that was not a member of the church and was either wacked out on drugs or mentally ill come in half dressed and started screaming and fighting with parishioners.

I share the sentiment that you should carry whenever possible.
