I am looking for suggestions of either store bought or homemade designs to hang dutch ovens over the fire. I don't want a tripod cause we'll be cooking with more than one DO. Also it needs to be sturdy enough to handle the weight, one ways 25lbs empty. Thanks, I appreciate it.
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

what are you cooking?
normally when I cook in a Dutch oven outside I use coals and put more on top than bottom
do your Dutch ovens have feet?

hanging I have seen spill more than I like. but if your going to hang the nicer setups I have seen are a rail supported on each end , some are pound in stakes with a pipe across , others nice black smithed rought iron and then long S-hooks or some clever adjustable hooks to raise and lower for store bought possibly something like this https://www.homedepot.com/p/BOZTIY-...5ZrPMFMpQ6QkKpIkvEk6eBYg7ghTfkpJqGxohKt0that general idea like a saw horse you don't need a huge fire under a Dutch oven typically for slow cooking so a short 3 legged stand would be my preference you could make them from all sorts of stuff angle iron , pipe legs , there are ones welded from horse shoes a folding store bought type to give you an idea https://www.petromax.com/product/cooking-stand-pt/if you made a wind shield for that you wouldn't even need a lot of fire

One rod has a big loop on top the other two have a small loop going through the big loop well just saw you dont want a tripod. maybe you nee two of them?

I would want some thing like this. If you have a fire ring you could weld pieces of pipe on it for the upright to slide into. You could have more than one. The arms adjust for height and can be turned over the fire and out of it. These have a lock screw, but it should not need them if made right. Do a search for swinging dutch oven hanger. ![[Linked Image]](https://trapperman.com/forum/attachments/usergals/2023/01/full-964-164378-do_hanger.jpg)

A simple saw horse design, up sized for your needs, out of metal, with a couple three chains and S hooks to hang from. Seems simple to me...
You could make it with a crank to raise and lower the pots it could be simple or as complex as you'd want to make it. A welder and supply of various types of steel, the possibilities are endless. Go talk to your local fabricator.

The dutch oven to the left of the blue enamel pot is on an adjustable hanger of a type that is quite common. ![[Linked Image]](https://www.gardenista.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/12/folding-campfire-dutch-oven-cooking-grill-1-584x438.jpg) My fire iron set looks more like this: ![[Linked Image]](https://i.pinimg.com/236x/ed/cb/23/edcb23b1d1df9aa1a0072b2baa676aa6--cooking-stand-fire-cooking.jpg) It has a similar arrangement as shown here on one of the vertical supports but on mine it is a coil of iron similar to an electirc stovetop coil instead of the solid pan shown but also slides up and down one of the supports. It allows adjustment up and down with less swinging but is limited to the edge of the fire. ![[Linked Image]](https://i.etsystatic.com/15545177/r/il/8394a6/4072764506/il_794xN.4072764506_k948.jpg) Google "Rendezvous fireirons" or "Rendezvous cooking."

Go talk to your local fabricator. I was just thinking about you Jayme cause MJM gave me an idea and I thought of your skinner. On my firepit I could weld square stock to both sides, weld round stock to another section of square so it swivels like the skinner, use S hook and chain to set height and I'd be in business at home. I like the sawhorse idea for when I get out and about. A lot of great ideas, keep'em coming! Danny, I think I'd like a tripod when only using one oven and I like those horseshoe stands SJA posted. Maybe one of each might work too.

Ed, that top one is quite nice. I think I will try my hand at building one. Same with that hanger

Hanging a DO works , especially if the chain is long and the hook is large enough to grab the chain and DO , to unhook the DO to set on ground to stir or add or remove anything to the DO. I always have welding gloves in my cooking gear . I love to build two fires for breakfast , one in a pit and the other next to it . Put a pot roast with fixings or even a round steak in DO place in the pit on top of coals , cover with the coals of the other fire. Bury it all with at least 2-3 inches of dirt. Go run the line or fish or hunt all day , and dinner is ready and waiting for you.

Trivets are my favorite. They're inexpensive or easily made, sturdy, adjustable by changing lag bolts lengths, VERY portable and compact, easy to control heat temp by rotating Dutch Ovens for those "cold spots" using charcoal, etc. :-)

I just use coals below and on top. I never hang a do. Too difficult to control the heat, or do you boys have a secret?

Thanks y'all for your help and great pics too. I think I'll try to find something like EdP's first pic.
