This one is the simple one that was my grandfather's. Again I have no idea how old it is. Just that it is older than my 66 year on planet.

[Linked Image]

The top one uses the sock type Mattel bottom on just wick. I haven't used either in years although I ran my grandfather's pretty regularly for a while. Actually the reason I made my first batch skunk oil. I ran it in this lamp.
The Aldin I only remember lighting one time just to try. Actually cracked the chimney glass when did. I haven't replaced that yet and really should. I have couple others around the house too but their nothing special to me.

Mac

If you look at the wick adjuster the Alladins usually have the model number on them.

Mac, that Aladdin is sweet! I have one like your Gpa's that hangs on the wall with a mirror behind it. Woodsloafer is right. Check out the wick riser. This pic may help in identifying the year it was made.

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

Mac, it looks like it's maybe a beehive from around 1937-38.

I've got a Nu-Type Model B. Think that is 1932? Chart was fuzzy when I blew it up.

I will say the mantles are NOT fragile like Coleman lantern models. You breathe on them wrong and they break. The Aladdin mantles can take quite a bit of knocking around without breaking. I've had one mantle on it for about 10 years. It finally wore out and I put on my second mantle this year.

This is the one I'd get, I think they're beautiful. From the mid 30's.

They make a new one like that that's red too. I think having one of each would be cool for Christmas. They even make Christmas shades for them. But I'm not rich enough LOL

I'm not rich enough either Ang, that one in the pic I posted sells for around 400 bucks. I find stuff at yardsales, thrift shops and it's cool that my buddies know what I do and I know what they do so we contact one another a lot so I pick up stuff from people they tell me about. I have one buddy that is a Coleman nut and I call him when I see some. He turned me on to a Coleman kerosene lantern a while back. It has a heater cup to preheat the generator. Much cheaper to use vs Coleman fuel.

If I run across a Aladdin on the cheap, I'd snag it in a heartbeat.

I went and looked on the ones I bought at the auction thinking they were a matching pair, bases looked alike but I'm not sure if they are now.after you posted look on the wick adjuster I did one had a stamp one just had a Allen wrench looking adjustment. I know nothing about these things but the one with a stamp all I could see is made in USA, the screw in the thing the wick comes out stays eagle on it.

I have sold some in the past. Now, I mainly restore and give them as gifts. I think everyone should have a good lantern and I gain a lot of enjoyment restoring them to working condition again and giving them to people who really like them.

Maybe silly but I've been toying with finding someone who could make like paper tags or whatever there called, to put on the lanterns. Like Jeff's Lantern works, restorer of fine Lanterns and then the Bible verse from Psalms 119; 105. Thy word is a lamp unto my feet, and a light unto my path. I think that'd be kinda cool.

Here's close up of knob on my Aladdin. Best I can tell from the chart was made 1933-1955??. So still older than me.

If you're thinking about have some tags made up. Maybe talk to Larry Finch see can he stamp you something in metal. I have some trap tag size one he made for me don't use on traps.

Mac, I'm not a good source for Aladdin's but I really think yours is the Beehive made in 37-8.

I have several Coleman gas lanterns all ones I bought to use myself. So I think my oldest is from late 1960-70s. I guess I didn't know they even had kersone model like yours. Only ever had them for users so Ive only seen white gas models.
Now when I go to auctions or yard sales. I be watching for that style just so can say seen one. lol.

Right on. I've got other irons in the fire so not sure when I'll get this one going but when I do I'll post lit pics. In my neck, kerosene is 6 bucks a gallon and Coleman fuel is pushing 20 bucks a gallon. I'm thinking me and this lantern will share some fishing time together.

Plus, like my ole buddy Marty lol says, we're doomed. Kerosene keeps well and although a single mantle, they light it up pretty good. Check out some vids on the Youtube about burning kerosene in 220 Colemans. It's plausible if ya figure it out. Oh, and I'll be using denatured alcohol for the preheat cup.
