Does anyone on here speak Spanish? When did you learn and how?

I know a few of you lucky guys married Spanish speaking ladies did they teach you?

It would help at work and with some friends that we hang out with. And maybe the next exwife lol

I taught myself spanish and it wasn't all that hard. What you do is put EL in front of words and O behind them. Example, pancake in spanish is elpancakeo. grin

I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I learned it in Spain ( Canary islands ) when i was 18. i left England and moved To Tenerife for a while and went in at the deep end as i got there without speaking a word of it. 6 month later I had it figured out.
Pretty much how I learned English when my mother married an english guy when I was 15 and we moved there without me knowing anything other than the basics.

Yep, when in Rome do as the Romans do or in this case...do as the Americans do.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

My family drove down to Costa Rica when I was 10 and I was thrown into a grade school knowing zero Spanish. I remember when the teacher asked for volunteers to help me with my math every girl in the class room raised her hand. I've been hooked on Latinas ever since! grin

So, a year in Costa Rica and I was getting the hang of it pretty good. Later in life I joined the Peace Corps and spent two years in Ecuador's amazon region. Peace Corps language training is superb. An FSI score of 2 is necessary after three months of training. The scores range from 0 to 5 Five being a native speaker. We had language training of 4-6 hours daily, 6 days a week and were housed with Ecuadorian families where we had to put it to practice.

My first marriage was to a gal from Mexico City which lasted 13 years. We spoke Spanish for the first year or two of the marriage but then she insisted on having me only speak english so that she could learn. My second (and current marriage) which is going on 20 years is to a Colombian gal.

Spanish is the language we speak at home.

Big part of this country belonged to Spain and Mexico prior to becoming part of the United States. And with a 1/3rd of the world speaking spanish what wrong with it?
