I have extra 5/64 7x7 cable. Wondering if you guys think this would work for snare extensions rather than buying more 3/32 cable. Mainly targeting coyotes and cats. Possibly beaver and otter. My current snares are 5 feet so I’m not worried about chewing just the strength of the ferrules and the cable.

Thanks!

And why would you need extensions on a CR in PA
Just curious is all
By the way, if you're CRs are 7X7 I'd be worried about chewing

I believe his snairs are only 5 ft long so maybe a short extention.
Most of the chewing would be on the snair and he said the extention cable is 7×7.
I didn't see mention of what cable the snair actually is.

The extention cable should be fine just be sure you're stop end are solid
Nothing more disheartening that to have your stop fail and have your coyote gone with cable.
I live snaired alot of coyote in Mississippi my extentions on about half my crs were 7×7. 5/65 cables no problems .

I thought the OP being from PA, was asking a PA related question.
I added the 7X7 comment because that's not coyote proof cable.

Not to bust your balls but what is coyote proof cable? I know for a fact 1x19 5/64 is not coyote proof cable and I'm unaware of a strand count or bundle of wire that is around the 3/32 size that is "coyote proof"?

As to the OP's question 5/65 cable will work for extensions, if it's 1x19 cable I don't like to use that as extensions because I like the ropiness of 7x7 cable for extensions but it will work none the less.

Odd, I thought the same thing. Some is better than others.

In response to wetdog

The OPS original post he said his snairs where around 5 ft long , so my response was to the fact that a 5 ft snair not being long enough for coyote snairtng without an extention or being fastened above the ground. The question was in regards to an extention not to a snair. Out of don't know how many 100s of coyotes I've snained with extentions I've never had a coyote chew threw the extention cable . If a coyote chews through its the snair itself. Good quality 5/64 7×7 is more than sufficient for an extention. This is not my opinion. I'm saying this from much experience. That being said I would not use 5/64. 7×7 as the snare cabe if I had a better choice.

I've used a bunch of 5/64 snare cable in 7×7 for coyote....John Graham does too.

But, it's only used in entaglement situations....Would use 1×19 with non -entanglement or snare restraint scenarios.

Wouldn't hesitate to use 5/64 7x7 as an extension in any coyote holding scenario.

I’m pretty sure if you snared enough coyotes with it, you’d have a chew out or two with even 1/8”.

I’ve dispatch snared a LOT of coyotes with 5/64 7x7, in grass, in brush, foot snares, etc, and my losses with it are pretty much exactly what they are with 1x19 of the same size. Roughly 1% until you get in to late fur season and spring when it jumps a little.

Now if we want to talk 1x19 in the 1/16” size, that is NOT coyote cable in my experience.

Yes for a lethal end quick kill 5/64 7×7 is sufficient. Like with a wedge lock and spring for instance.
