I am SUPER excited today, and just had to share this…
I have been looking for, and finally found, some Sleepy Creek 4.5 Offset Double Long Springs with the little beaver engraved on them. I LOVE trapping beaver, and this has been my “holy grail” trap. Some are coming from a gentleman on this forum, a few others are coming from another gentleman elsewhere. The ones from elsewhere just got delivered today, and are INCREDIBLE!! Can’t wait to get these in the water on my next beaver job. What an impressive trap!! Thank goodness I already ordered setters cause there is NO CHANCE my 48 year old, beat up body is setting these things. Can’t tell ya how excited I am for these traps, nor how thankful I am too the two gentleman that provided them. I’ll never be able to thank you enough.
What a trap!!!
Why do I carry 10mm? Because shooting twice is just silly.

Would be nice if Sleepy Creek went back into production. Those 41/2's were one trap I never did try.

Brian Mckee at Southern Snares bought the Sleepy Creek machinery. But, it's not up and running, yet. Brian has a lot of "irons in the fire" and the situation with quality steel availability and cost is keeping it a low priority. I was at his shop yesterday and the big machines are in place, so maybe it'll happen one day and we'll see SC traps back in production. Also, Sterling Fur in Ohio has some #4s still available.

Last I heard, Southern Snares had bought all rights, etc, and was supposed to be reviving the brand. Southern Snares still shows Sleepy Creek traps on Southern Snares website, but all are out of stock. I was hoping to hear that situation had improved. Sounds like that is not the case......yet.

That's good to hear and I hope they go back to the round pan on the smaller traps. Before SC closed up shop I got a couple "Red Specials".
I wonder if tap dancers walk into a room, look at the floor, and think, I'd tap that. I wonder about things.....

I find it odd that a trap you have never used is your Holy Grail. Is it because SC shut down?

To answer some questions…
The traps I got today were indeed new, old stock. I’d love to post a picture, but can’t figure out how. Boxes were still stapled shut - one box still is. The ones that are still being sent to me are used, and modified with larger pans. In total, I found 19 traps.
I’ve wanted these traps since I heard about them three years ago or so. I had a friend back then that told me they were his “go to” trap for beaver. Beaver is what I enjoy trapping the most. I was extremely new to trapping, and trusted this guy like God himself. Learned a lot from him. So, kind of like a little kid wanting to be like his dad, I wanted to have the same equipment he had. I knew it worked, I knew he loved it, and I never heard of anyone talk so enthusiastically about any other trap.
I looked high and low for them. Found some new, old stock sleepy creeks in different sizes lately, but never the 4.5 offsets. They have been sold out for a long time. There are still some #1 and #1.5 long springs from a couple suppliers available, but they are about out. I run a very small line usually, so I picked up 2 dozen of each of those smaller sizes for the small critters found while water trapping. But the 4.5’s aren’t anywhere to be found. Till now!!!
To say I’m excited is an understatement. And I wasn’t disappointed in the slightest. I’ve been using my KO K9 traps for beaver, or a 330, or Hancock. We have to pull permits to use footholds or body grip traps here, so have to move quick and be efficient. Can’t imagine anything holding a beaver better than these 4.5 sleepy creeks. What a beast of a trap!!!

I'm glad you got your dream traps! I wish you well! You'd better post pics of all these beaver! Btw, I hate dealing with beaver, but unfortunately that's the only way I can get any area to trap! Maybe someday I'll actually enjoy it. Btw, why offset, my understanding is closed jaw is the best for beaver (and everything as far as I'm concerned)?

Awesome, now post a pic with your hand in one! Um… NO!! I’ve had my hand in one. Wasn’t too bad.

Offset or rubber jaws are required by state regs here. Otherwise I would do straight for sure. I’ve used offset the last three years on beaver with the KO K9 traps, and never lost one yet.
