270 is great same power as 30-06 but less recoil schmit Rubin would be smiling

I don't shoot long distances,,so my go to deer gun is my Marlin 30-30.Tell your brother in law to shoot BEHIND the shoulder not at it.In one rib and out the rib on the other side.No ruined meat.

It's not the caliber doing that meat damage, it's the bullet being fired ! Some "hunting bullets" are actually designed to do this, although I would never consider using them.

If u want a better selection of bullets and still want that 06 case get a 280 rem it's a 7mm cal in a 06 case. That is my good gun in brownie abolt2 and a part of xbolts they all shoot lights out

A older friend told me he’s seen more one shot kills on moose here in Alaska with a .270 then any other caliber. Only problem is whatever that bullet touches bloodshot follows

Bullet construction matters with any/all calibers.
FWIW, a 270 is a 30-06 necked down to 270 (.277)

A deer gut shot with a 30-30 is the way to go so as not to tenderize the front shoulders (back ones as well)...
