We have had more fog than normal in the last week and a half. Everything is covered with frost, heavy frost that is hard. If we get any snow or wind it will be hard on trees. I don't see anything in the ten day forecast that looks like it will burn it off. The antenna on the car was tennis ball size, so are the power lines. We lost power today for about three hours. It just came back on,

That would flatten just about everything down here. Out trees ain't built for it.

They are getting lower by the day. The tree in the first picture I ride under the limbs with the zero turn and it getting so I don't have to duck. This is another reason why trees are hard to start.

Zim and I were just studying up on hoarfrost because we've had quite a bit here ... but nothing like THAT! Beautiful!

Beautiful to see.
Ugly for the potential outcome.

Exactly! I took a walk today and there are trees folded over everywhere from the heavy, wet snow a couple of weeks ago. The ONLY good thing about it is all the young maple and Aspen that are folded over appear to be easy browsing for the deer and they seem to enjoy following my snowmobile track too.

I have nothing clever to put here.

We get that a lot here in SE Idaho. Can make for black ice dangerous road conditions especially at night.

It seems like it is something every year. I don't have enough trees to loose a bunch.

We’ve always called it pogonip. That’s the local natives word for it, it translates to “white death”. Sure is pretty though.

We get these type of events on warm still days. Well warm to us.

We had it like that a couple weeks ago MJM. I don't recall ever seeing the hoarfrost that heavy on things like that before. The power lines looked like they were 3 4 inches in diameter.

There was a good amount of it this morning here too, not as heavy as yours.

This has been building for about a week and a half. I have seen hoarfrost build before, but this is hard, like packed snow. It is not as hard as ice, but it not delicate.
It was very nice out today, but not warm enough to melt here. My younger Daughter lives about 35 miles East and she said all the frost is off the trees at her place.

Nice pictures .Yes it can be hard on trees .But in nature the strong survive and the rest some times don,t Us humans usually don't like that but it is natures way .It is something that seldom happens here .And when it does I feel like I have been given a gift

Very cool pictures. We’ve been ice fishing on the Missouri River the past 3 days and had lots of frost. It’s actually called Hoar Frost

I spent many hours sneak hunting ducks along a stream that is about 30 to 40 feet wide most places .The water does not freeze over even on the coldest winters . There is a paper making plant located on the stream and they release warm water into the stream . I am 60 plus years old and I have never seen the stream freeze over even the coldest days of winter . If the weather gets bitter cold in Jan., say single digits for lows and highs only in the teens and 20.s all the open water in the area freezes and this stream remains open .And the ducks pile in to the open water With the right cloud conditions all the vegetation is frosted which makes is easier to sneak along looking for ducks sitting ,resting and feeding in spots where they are not subject to the water currents .And because the water in the stream is warm from being used in the paper making process the really cold air creates a ribbon of steam the follows the course of the stream . And that steam helps to hide your movements as you slowly move looking for signs of riffles on the water or occasionally a few ducks talking to each other as they rest in the quiet pools that the ducks rest in . That frosted effect caused by just the right weather conditions was a great help to making my duck hunting a success and also a sight to behold
