Those of you that have gotten your truck, snowmobile or ATV stuck in a place that didn't have trees: has anybody ever tried driving an earth anchor & hooking to that? I would think it might work. A person would have to be careful to make sure the anchor doesn't break & send the winch strap flying back at ya. Anyway it's probably a crazy idea but I was just curious if anybody has tried it

Haven't used an earth anchors, have used an screw-In auger type anchor. Put a jacket or two on the winch cable to prevent it flying back if it breaks.

Put in two about a foot apart and winched my Polaris 570 out of a mud wallow last year. 1/8 cable, wolf fangs and double Ferrell's buried down about 20 inches in average ground

Same as Scott for ATV's- always wrap two wet towels around winch cable...and have an earth anchor in the side by side. When the truck gets buried - All I need is a farmer and a tractor.

I always use two chain stake rigs, sometimes three and have used this process MANY times to winch myself from goo.

I built my own earth anchor like the pic. It's not a fancy holdup, but works when nothing else will.

I do the opposite.... I use the winch on the 4 wheeler to pull up the super stakes using the loop on the retrieval cable.

I used to do that, broke way too many winch cables on the atv. I've never winched myself out with an earth anchor, but I've drove in a t-post and used it to winch myself out. In fact in an area where I used to hunt quite a bit there was one atv trail that was too steep to ride up and someone had drove a t-post into the ground until only about two feet was visible at the top of the hill and everybody used that to winch their atv up the hill.

I used a all metal military shovel with a D handle. I dug a hole with the shovel and make it into a hoe. Put the head of the hoe in the hole with the cable hooked to it drive the head down with three pound hammer. Bared the head and stomped it down. Winch right up to it and the winch will pull the shovel.

Tried winching up an earth anchor on my 4-wheeler. When the back tires got about 1.5ft off the deck I decided it would stay right where it lies. As far as I know, it’s still there, lol.

I have used a 'dead man" many times on the lake. Drill a hole, sink a post and hook low to it.

I have nothing clever to put here.

Winched my Polaris atv out of this mess last summer with a wolf fang cable anchor.

It works. Carry a corner post anchor and straps in my truck at all times for that reason. Where I go, it goes.

They have a "earth anchor" here for driving the beaches, pure sand, It's basically a triangular chunk of steel with an attachment for your winch cable hook, I'm thinking it's about a foot on all sides, you bury it in the sand and winch up to it.
