They’re pretty cool critters, except for robbing all the bait out of DP’s!!

Nice!

I had a surprise last year on a trailcam. Took me a couple minutes to realize it was a flier.

There comes a point liberalism has gone too far, we're past that point.

I've seen this a fair amount. Not too much chewing compared to other animals , but some chewing. Lots of urine smell and droppings however. Noise issues too , nocturnal activities.

Plus you are not dealing with a family unit , instead a colony. I've been in attics with 50-100 present. Eventually they start showing up in the living spaces of a home too.

Adorable little things however , very soft fur.

Thanks, Cragar , I learned some things from your info. I have a pair here, have had for years. They sleep in my bird houses....so far so good, I think.

TYPICAL, Boco......typical ...... you watch. I'll have flea collars on them in no time.

We are still working on a couple of fur mite species on them but the DNA is always getting cross-contaminated with the smash and bash guys working on them'
they are 0.5 mm in size, so not much to go with to start with.
They do carry their own unique flea species, besides the other red squirrel species of fleas.

I have had 8 of them on the feeder at night for the past few weeks. Last year I had 15-20. I enjoy watching the little buggers and interestingly enough, they prefer suet and meat over sunflower seeds or cracked corn. They eat it all but seem to prefer the meat. When there are a group of them they "spook" each other so there is constant motion with them jumping all over. I refer to them as my little crack heads. I have never had any trouble with them getting in the buildings or anything but there are lots of natural den sites for them around here too.

I have nothing clever to put here.

They will shred your hanging fur. I’ve had wads of them over the years.

Same here! Blank camera image until I watched it very closely. Squirrel just kinda appeared out of nowhere and was on a tree on the video.

They show up with just their little eyes glowing on my trail cams at night. I’ll see if I can find the pic I got of one in mid flight from a tree to my Boss Buck feeder. They would glide to the opening of the feeder and eat the protein from the safety of the spout.

The danger is that most US Docs have never seen typhus and flying squirrel vectored typhus is so rare it is often misdiagnosed until to late or nearly so.

Doxicycline is the antibiotic of choice.

They are definitely meat eaters and cannibalistic. Been in many attics where you get half eaten fliers in your snap traps.
