Hey yall, I caught 2 skunks in the same set this morning and both sprayed before I reached them whilst still in the traps. I searched on here and found that someone mentioned using a hydrogen peroxide and baking soda mixture to remove the odor from the pelts but i did not see any measurements for the amounts. Can anyone provide that info? Better options?
Also when should they be washed (before or after fleshing or both)?
And
Does skunk smell in a set deter or attract coyotes? I caught them in a K9 set and was curious if it will effect its attraction to any passing yotes.
Thanks!

No thanks. It has already penetrated my shoes, clothes and hat i had on when checking my traps without any known contact and has since spread to my house and car. I changed clothes and showered before picking my kids up from school and my son told me as soon as I met him in the gym "you smell like skunk!" My wife is none too pleased.

Cool thanks!
And the peroxide doesn't change the color of the black hair?

I already skinned them. Will that matter?

Next time you skin a mink slash the glands,my wife hates when I do that.
I used to do that at skinning demos all the time just for effect.
I really enjoy mink musk.

Then there are those little stinkers called weasels.

1 quart hydrogen peroxide, 1/4 cup baking soda, 1 tablespoon dawn dish soap. Scrub the hide down good with that mixture, let it sit for 30 seconds or so and rinse well. It works great. I know it works cause my wife still lets me sleep in our bed if I use it after getting sprayed lol.

Most times they enhance the set. Make a new one close by incase there is a pair that comes by.

Pick up a bottle of Natures Miracle Skunk remover and keep it in your trapping vehicle for next time. The peroxide mixture works but has a short shelf life while this does not. I can find it at my loca tractor supply store or on Amazon.

I never liked natures miracle. It leaves behind a weird smell. Not skunky, just weird.

The fact that Boco knows bloated wolf smells tells me he has handled more than a few wolves.

No it won't discolor the fur, as long as you're using the typical peroxide they sell at Walmart, etc....which is like 2% ish.

Buy some super concentrated stuff and you might have some issues.

If you're catching multiple skunks, it pays to skin and freeze them all and do them all at once. Saves on solution I found.

No discoloration that I've ever noticed.

You can mix up a bunch of batches of the peroxide mix for what one bottle of the Natures Miracle costs. I did try the Natures Miracle and was not impressed by its performance compared to the price point.

I will stick with peroxide, baking soda and a squirt of dawn.
