Thanks for the responses though guys!

Boone- do you care to share what rifle you are running? I spent some time on the phone with both dtech and Apf but the barrels are further out than our hog hunt. I am planning on getting ahold of sd rifles over lunch

Mines a custom bolt gun. Rem 700 action, 8 twist bartlein barrel finished at 20”.

It’s a shooter. 200 and 400 yard groups.

Spend enuff time hunting/shooting coyotes in every scenario possible, you (we) all will appreciate where FAST comes into play.
wink

Boone, why you shootn them at 800 yards?
Call em closer. laugh

swampgas chili and schmidt beer makes for a deadly combo

Boone- my longest is 707 yards. It looked like he went down good but when we got trekked over there he had gotten up and ran a ways. We tracked him through the snow and ended up putting another in him. It would be a better story if it would have anchored him on his tracks but I still count it as a confirmed 700 yard coyote!

That’s the problem with most of the VLD style bullets.

Not many have good terminal performance for coyotes. I never could find one in 6.5 mm.

I shot a .260 for some time and never did find a bullet that had the terminal performance I was looking for. And I spent more time developing loads for that rifle testing bullets than I did just shooting it!

Gee. Why didn’t I think of that?

I wish! Easier said than done after three months of everyone and their brothers uncle screaming at em.

wv has a fall either sex season, in good fall turkey hunting areas, if you stroke a turkey call more often than not, this happens

Have you considered a 22 Creedmore? I have read (no personal experience) that a 1/8 twist barrel shooting 88 ELD-M is quite the combination.

The 22 creedmoor would actually be at the top of my list if there was a factory ammo selection available. I do not enjoy reloading like some.

22-250 has a lot of reported function issues in an AR platform. I would avoid that unless you're going bolt gun.

I think I’ve convinced myself I want one for an upcoming hog hunt.

I've sure you will be disappointed in most calibers south of .30 for hogs. Where I shoot'em, if you dont anchor them, you wont find them.

I’ve got 2 different buddies with an Apf in 22-250 and collectively they are about 1k rounds into them trouble free. Supposedly.

Diggerman- what caliber do you shoot your deer with?

Just giving my 2 cents, Hit alot with the .223, low percent recovery, .300 blackout, good recovery with 125 grainers, .308 real good recovery rate especially when using 220's, all in AR platforms. My opinoin on hogs is that they can soak up alot of energy.
Deer, whatever I grab in the morning, I've had good luck with everything from .223 to .300 wsm. favorite would be 7mm STW.

Enter the .224 Valkyrie.

That’s what I’d build if I was dead set on a gas gun.

Shoot them in the right place you can drop a hog easy with anything .223 and up. CNS , that never cluster right behind the head. Decently big target drops em like a sack of potatoes. Anything else if for the bird imo unless your talking running shots

what about the 6.5 Grendel, 100 gr at 2750 fps, or 120 at 2600, ruins a deers day for sure, the 6.5 creed runs a 140 at 2700.
