My son is turning 15 this weekend. He's learning to fix his quad he bought with his hard earned money. He asked for a ratchet set or a set of wrenches for his birthday. My problem is, when I was his age Craftsman was the go to brand. Since it was bought by Black and Decker it seems a bit cheap and im not so sure about the warrenty anymore. Is there another brand that carries the warranty that Craftsman did? I don't need anything like snap on just something decent he can use forever if he takes care of it. What say you?

SK makes decent tools. I would avoid the new Craftsman also.

I bought a craftsman set for my boys and the first time we used the ratchet just putting a starter on the utv it broke. I r took it back got a new one and wouldn't you know I put a socket on it and worked to to see if it were on tighten or loosen and the guts fell out in my hand before we put it on the first bolt. I have not bothered taking it back again I don't see the point to get more trash.

I like some of the kobalt tools from Lowe's

I think they have a lifetime warranty but not sure .

Never had any problems and reasonably priced

I have old Craftsman and SnapOn among others but believe it or not Kobalt is rated number 1. I would have never thought it.

A sad day for me when Sears closed down. You can still buy tools with Craftsman stamped on them at Ace Hardware but I think they're Chinese tools using the Craftsman name.

You get what you pay for, you stated you wanted tools that "he could use forever". You don't get that on the cheap

I'd go with: SK, Snap On, Mac

I have a set of SK combo wrenches and a 1/2" drive socket set that are forty-plus years old. They've been used and abused and are still looking good.

I had a forty-plus year old Craftsman 1/2" ratchet start acting up. It wouldn't engage when switching directions unless I thumped it on something solid. I emailed Sears. They asked for a receipt. I said it was long gone. They ask for a picture. I sent them two. They replaced it for free with a new soft grip 1/2" drive ratchet.

I hope it holds up as well as the last one which I kept just in case it doesn't.

Eh...wot?

Milwaukee Tool is building a hand tool facility in West Bend, WI and they offer a nice selection of hand tools on the market already. I have some their side cutters and impact sockets- very pleased so far. They're not as pricy as Mac, Cornwell or Snap-On but better quality than Craftsman.
