How does it compare to the 264 win mag.

According to Hodgdon 53 grains of IMR 4831 is a compressed load. And 264 win mag shoots a 120 grain bullet at real close velocities

Oh now we’re talking. 264 is my baby I run a 120 TTSX at 3125 fps A 117 in my 25-06 at 2945 fps
But the 264 you can crank heavier bullets than the 25. Both are great in my opinion

Great question by itself, but a 270 and a 7mm are not "big bore guns" as I was alluding to.

great choice on the number one I have 2 # 1s in 25-06 one blued and one in stainless a 243 win #1 and a 257 Roberts ruger RSI #1
the 25-06 is a great round flat shooting and gets the job done
I worked up a load using 115 gr nosler ballistic tips for whitetails and shoot 75 and 100 gr for chucks and predator hunting

I bought my son a 25.06 several years back, I've always been a .270 fan. I find myself taking his when he doesn't want to go. We have been shooting 117 gr. Out of it. Good luck

I am not a big fan of antelope meat. Have not killed one since high school. Thinking if I mix it about 25% antelope to 75% pork then make breakfast, brats, summer sausage out of it we would eat it. I did not "need" another gun but now I need a hunt. Think maybe WY antelope would be fun. last time I ate any was in a small town WY bar. Was superbowl Sunday and someone brought in a big slow cooker full of TX chili with antelope meat. Had lots of kick. I like spicy and that made it okay to eat also.

Try 117 Hornady inter-lock bullet in it killed a pile of elk with that caliber hit them where they live and they die. Great round imo

I been reading that #1's have a lot of free bore. You guys shooting them, are you seating bullets out to the lands? How much free bore is there?

I've been reloading Hornady 130 gr Interlock bullets for my 270 for 25+ years. A very excellent hunting bullet. No if's and's or but's - if you do your job the Interlock will fill your tag.

my family love .25-06 low recoil and flat shooting for wife and kids.
I reload 120gr nosler partitions with 40grs of IMR 4350 we run that thru Remington 700's
My family has killed over 30 elk and unknown number of deer, pronghorn and feral hogs.
family has killed a few coyotes with this load and it not a fur friendly load.

my wife has killed 2 bulls with one shot kills at roughly 500yards.

25-06 wouldn't be highest on my bucket list but if I had a chance at a Ruger #1 that chambered in it for a decent price I sure would have a had time passing up. Then again I never really need an excuse to buy a gun. Good luck Danny. Let us know how it for ya.

The first 25-06 I had was a Ruger 77 and it had nice wood too. I gave it to my niece for her graduation present and she knocked the Deer around on their farm with it.

I have one in a Mossberg Patriot now that I've used the last few years, but its definitely not a Ruger.

I am moving forward ADC. Could not set the scope back far enough. had to stretch forward uncomfortably to see through it properly. so ordered these.

I can never get a scope back far enough, especially if you're wearing a hunting coat.
