When I first got into bobcat trapping I had a hard time finding a video resource for skinning and putting up cats. Eventually Andy Weiser and Mark Steck collaborated and made Andy's Western Bobcat Trapping DVD and that was the only video I had on how to skin a cat, but I learned what I could from Tracy Truman's post on bobcat put up and put the two together to figure the process out. So I've wanted to have a good YouTube source for the whole process for a while and decided to make one myself.. Below is my best attempt at making that resource. Check it out. Subscribe if you do YouTube and pass it on to folks who have questions. If you watch it and have anything to add or any criticism at all let me know in the comments below.

Nice video.. A couple tiips-when using your hands to pull the membrane a paper towell will grip it real good. Also-it looked like you were using a scissors to cut fur. That is a no no-use a sharp knife and trim from the leather side so as not to clip the fur.
Forget that fear of gravity-get a little savagery in your life.

Yama I made a mistake and had to cut 5 min out of the video because I got the wrong camera angle.while explaining the boards. I use the top lot stretcher but I have one of Clete's boards as well.

That's a good idea Boco I'll do that from here on out. I've noticed that when I trim while the fur is boarded that I shorten the hair just a bit.

They resemble my stretchers with long center board. I just always fit the board to the Cat so I can utilize the center board for the pinning of the Belly. ( A good set of Loppers makes a uniform cut on the wrists of those front legs.)

Spike, K-zoo thanks alot. I enjoyed making it and think I'll go trap a coyote just to make one of those and really showcase that skinning base. Cats are so easy to pull the base basically just holds them for me as I skin the head out.

Tip on skinning cat when skinning cut up to white of the belly just alongside you will gain a inch because they measure the back,,, secondly it will square up better on back. And the belly will match,, makes for a better end put up. Stretchers Colorado cat on here sells a one heck of a stretcher for cats and coyotes.

What RED MT said above. Also, you are losing 1-2 inches on the face and nose by using the wide round nosed stretchers. I can tell this by where the ears are pinned in relation to the eye holes. Tips of ears should come an inch or more below the eyes. Also losing length at the tail by not having it pinned straight across and pinning there first. I do back and belly at the same time. Alternating as I pin (depends on individual cats some times) Need to clean the board of grease more often to keep the fur cleaner. Try fleshing the tail and a few inches of skirt first, managing the grease, then go up to the head and do as you have shown. Good job on the audio and video.
I'll Ditto what the other western guys have said, you should not pin the eyes closed. They should be pinned open for tagging and hanging on fur hangers.
