More how to do, not what to do things. Like how to manipulate the lacing to get the fur to hang correct. I definitely need to pay more attention when I cut the lacing, there are a few thin spots.

And tie a knot or wrap the tail of the rawhide wrapping on the hoop better, it is a bit looser than I'd like, but should work.

On to the next ones.

If you dont tan them the dermestid maggots will start to eat them up in the summer.
As soon as you notice the maggots on them spray them real good with raid-check them from time to time and spray when needed or you will have hooped swiss cheeze.

Boco,

It is tanned, just not by me, by Moyle's. No worries about the bugs. I thought you were asking more if I tanned it myself.

Just commercial tanned deerskin. I cut it myself from a large circle. About 3/16 wide. I cut about an 8 inch circle, then spiral cut the lace out. Much more efficient way to get lace then cutting straight pieces.

Those muskrats look great!

I tan beaver for collectors to display their old bows, guns, collectables in general on.

Will do the same as you with my muskrats to sell to the collectors

TILL THAT DAY.....

Nice job Ken. I did four of them this year and they do really look nice. Take up much less room than the hooped beaver.

57 years trapping. It's who I am. Every day is still as exciting as it was when I was a kid but a little more work.

very nice looking and great job. I am going to try and hoop some beavers this year waiting for them to come back from the tannery. My biggest issue is gonna be finding willow to make the hoops.

very nice!!! i brain tan all my hooped beaver, easy!!! just flesh good and rub the brains on the flesh side, cover with plastic for 24hrs to sweat, rub brains in again and your done other than scraping and sanding off excess brain material. best part is this can all be done while on the hoop!!
