It’s this guy who gives hunters and trappers a bad name.

Yep. My GUESS is the antler hunter was upset that those dogs were keeping deer away from his tree stand. the missing heads were likely already sold as coyote heads/skulls. Probably figured the skins would pass too.

I saw pictures of the dogs taken in their home where they had collars on. I wonder how he explained that? I think you got it right, Danny.

I dont agree with killing the dogs just because they were not where they should be, But I could understand in the moment of anger how it happened, But skinning them? That takes a little determination and elbow grease. Anyone who has ever skinned any animal could tell a dog from a coyote. This guy aint right.

Lady just got convicted in Montana for same thing, killed a husky, skinned it and bragged on Facebook about killing a wolf.

I think I heard about that, wasn't she also some distance away from people and houses and had a tag?

I found it, looks like they went as easy on her as they could.

Amber Barnes, who was 36 when she shot the dog, received the misdemeanor charge from a judge in Flathead County District Court. She’ll face a 6-month deferred sentence, according to local KPAX 8 news. According to Montana law, that means she’ll be on probation for 6 months. If she fulfills the court’s requirements, it will remove the charge from her record.

Barnes must also complete an online hunting course and cannot use her hunting rifle during her probation, KPAX 8 reported, and she initially received a $585 fine, which was later suspended.

Barnes attracted a lot of attention for her mistake last fall, when she took to Facebook displaying a dog’s remains, saying she had “smoked a wolf pup.”

The husky she shot and killed was one of a handful of young dogs someone dumped near Kalispell, Mont., a Flathead County Sheriff’s spokesperson said. Many had parvo, but each dog except the one Barnes killed was recovering as of the incident.

How can it be a crime to kill a stray dog? That is troubling to me.

I agree Danny, and I think the judge was trying to appease the AR folks. The article also said, that it will be completely removed from her record after the 6 month probation.

So, she was "sentenced", but it won't exist on legal documents after 6 months.

There has been a major shift in how dogs are viewed in the last 10 years, maybe longer. I would be incredibly careful about shooting stray dogs, if I did shoot one I certainly wouldn't skin it and pose with it on Facebook.

I'm guessing and it's only a guess that she could of got off on the charges if she hired a lawyer and went through the whole song and dance but it was probably easier to take a plea deal and be on probation for 6 months, likely less headlines that way as well.

This is in my backyard. Only a couple towns away.

Some background , this area is very expensive to live here. Ridgefield ( where the dogs live ) is high end. Starter homes are $500k , homes big enough for a family start at $750 - $1mil. Plenty of multi million homes too. I've done work in a $20 million home. South of here about 5 towns away is a house on the coast with a price tag of $150 million. Very urbanized , almost no farms. In the cheaper areas , condos start at $250k to $600k.

With that said , very little fur trapping here almost all ADC work. Finding land to hunt is extremely difficult.

You are more likely to find someone who owns a Ferrari than a fur trapper here. During the summer , I will see at least 1 Ferrari per month on the road.

My bet is the guy that did this is just a knucklehead and has lawyered up good to cover his screwup.

These stories will somehow always directly lead to anti trapping legislation. It's right there in the article....." The hunting and trapping of coyotes is legal in Connecticut."

As to say that if it wasn't legal, this wouldn't be a problem, so we should just pass legislation to make it illegal. Idiots doing these things only make it harder for us

Gotta live up to the nickname...

I thought Parvo was Deadly to a Dog?? Anyway in WV if you have livestock it IS LEGAL to shoot any critter attacking your Livestock. I killed a Bear back in 2009 when it got into my Barn with our Horses. The County Sheriff wanted me arrested but the Conservation Officer said NO WAY!!! I would think dogs would be the same. A pack of Dogs usually end up causing Trouble.

God please keep they 19 fallen UBB miners out of trouble up there.

Some of the husky/wolf crosses up in Moose Factory have beautiful fur.
No fur grader would ever be able to distinguish as a domestic.

Ditto on this, how does a coyote come to have a collar and tags?

Is there another article missing or something? Y’all saying things that weren’t in that posted article. Did he confess when seeing pics or hearing of someone looking for their dogs?
